Too much to do, so few hours to do it in... A break for some sharing.

1. Yesterday I had Return of the Jedi on in the background for the first time in a couple of years, because reading several sexy-violent works-in-progress lately got me in the mood for the scene where the Emperor zaps Luke to within an inch of his life. I made a mental note at the time to look up the actor who played the Emperor, because I was curious whether I've seen him in anything else, but of course I then completely forgot. Then last night I settled down to unwind over an episode of MI-5, and a one-episode character (an elderly chemist with a Northern English accent) who had white hair and kind of a scratchy voice reminded me enough of him that I remembered to check. So I looked Ian McDiarmid up on IMDB, and guess what? Though I hadn't in fact seen him in anything else, he actually was that guy on MI-5, which I was not expecting at all. Honestly, if I hadn't watched Star Wars right before, I never ever would have thought the chemist looked or sounded at all familiar.

2. Music share. Today's theme is Music In Languages Other Than English. The selection is unfortunately limited to my mp3 collection, because I can't at the moment rip songs from CDs or *cough* strip permissions from iTunes downloads, so we're a little heavy on the dance and low on the folk. Expect additions at some point.

  • Sigur Rós - "Hjartað Hamast" (Hopelandic, which the band made up) Featured in the movie Immortel: Ad Vitam with Thomas Kretschmann. Be sure to turn it up nice and loud for that deep soundscape and those soft, rolling r's....

  • Sigur Rós - "Gong" (Icelandic)

  • Noir Désir - "Le Vent Nous Portera" (French)

  • Franka Potente and Thomas D - "Komm zu Mir" (English & German) From Run Lola Run. Maybe cheating because of the English, but the German parts are so much better I sometimes forget there's English in here when I play the song. German is such a sexy language.

  • Cheb Mami & Idir - "Azwaw II" (Algerian) A sampling of rai. If you don't know Cheb Mami already, you'll probably recognize him from his ululating vocals on Sting's "Desert Rose." I dare you not to tap your foot to this one.

  • Cheb Mami & Khaled - "Parisien du Nord" (Algerian & French) Because those two are just so cool together.

  • Cornelis Vreeswijk - "Somliga går med trasiga skor" (Swedish)

  • Connie Dover - "Ubi Caritas" (Latin) Celtic-flavored.

  • Kinky - "Soun Tha Mi Primer Amor" (Spanish)

  • Afro Celt Sound System feat. Sinead O'Connor - "Release" (English & Gaelic) Again, maybe this is cheating because so much of the song is in English, but IMO the most gorgeous moment in this song is during the first Gaelic solo. Iarla O'Lionaird has one of the most beautiful singing voices in any language today.

3. Photo share. Because I found this:

over the weekend, and tell me it isn't one of the hottest photos you've ever seen. Warning for adult content involving male/male eroticism.

And while we're at it, check these out too (same warning applies):

(These are either from a series called "ti amo" or by a photographer who goes by that name. Found 'em here.)

And that is all. Enjoy!

ETA: That is not all. Ha -- how cool is this? Someone's been inspired to write a fic based on an icon I made. Which reminds me, I made a new icon yesterday (thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] tathren and [livejournal.com profile] trekkiegrrrl for help finding Minifesto) with a quote from a fun bit of House/Wilson fluff called "Things To Do Before You Die" by [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot, which you should go read if you haven't yet. Let's see if this works:

Take if you like. Yes. And that is all.

Mmmm... that first photo is very hot. Inspiring ;-)

Also, remind me to, erm, show you some Danish music some time. (Or just make that pimpage post of new Danish artists soon... Like I've planned for ages.)

Yes! And, yes, do! I've a few, but my very favorite one -- "Elia Rising" by Sort Sol with Sissel -- is in English, and also an .avi file (long story), so I didn't upload it.

I think I know why. It's made for the reveal of a large sculpture called Elia. Sort Sol is actually one of my favourite bands and they always sing in English. To my knowledge, they've only done one song in Danish and it has never been released - it was a cover of another Dane, C.V. Jørgensen.
(Sissel is Norwegian but married and living in Denmark.)

But I'll do that post soon :-D A lot of Danish music is in English, though.

Was it? Neat. I had trouble finding information about the origins of the song when I found it a few years ago -- there weren't many sites that mentioned it, and most of them were in Danish or Norwegian. But actually, it's an .avi file because the only download I could locate was in a fanvid for some anime series! *g* So I have to turn the video option off when it plays or else I have to look at these random anime characters that have nothing to do with this beautiful song at all.

I look forward to your music share, English or Danish or whatever languages end up being represented.

I'm 90% sure it was, yes :-) The sculpture is pretty amazing in itself too. A large temple-like structure on a hill.
*GG* That's funny with the fan-vid. But I've never seen a release of it either, so that might be why. Wonder where the vidder got it from...

Thanks :-) Perhaps that's the incentive I need to remember to do that post!

:)

I figured Elia was a mythical figure, or at least a fictional character emulating mythology, like something out of Neil Gaiman. D'you know?

It does sound a lot like that :-)
I found the site for the sculpture. It's at http://www.elia.dk and there's an English mirror site.

Nnngh, pictures... I went and saved the entire gallery to my hard drive. XD This has been my boyslash icon for a long time. I may need a new one.

That icon now, that's a Slomovits shot from the same series, isn't it? The boys reminded me of Remus and Sirius in some of the photos.

I believe it is, because the name sounded very familiar. But I don't know for sure because I didn't make it myself.

haha Today I've been spending a lot of time looking through the other galleries on that page... There are some rear ends on there that should win AWARDS. Guh. I want to bite them. XD

*g* Spending time in the galleries on Slomovits' site (jackny.com) or at Reedfem? Reedfem's got some good stuff, but I liked Slomovits more because he did mostly couples stuff rather than solo portraits, which don't do much for me.

At the moment I'm still sifting through the Reedfem stuff. But I'll be going through the Slomovits stuff, too! People are so pretty. I like looking at them. XD

Slomovits has a series of more than 200 photos of the couple in your icon (?) and above, is mostly why I asked. I think you shall like.

People are so pretty.

That's pretty much the statement the photographers are trying to make, isn't it? Bodies as art, completely natural.

LOL, was that your icon? I've noticed it before (the discover fanfic one, that is). I didn't know that though.

Also, quite hot, but I did have to double check that first pic to make sure it really was M/m XD

Yeah, there's that androgyny thing again, I guess -- girlish in their boyishness? Or something. All I know is it's gorgeous. The hand on the ribs/stomach most of all.

And yep, I made it last... May (yes, I remember which post I used it on first, and just went and checked), before we really knew each other. It was the first only icon of mine that other people started using. It's been fun to see it pop up in random places, even if there isn't always credit given in the person's icon info (sometimes I check for the hell of it), but that's a known risk of putting anything out there on the Web.

I'm just rambling now, but I've come to the conclusion that the whole androgyny thing really doesn't do a thing for me. It's interesting, but, yes, I'm far more attracted to guys who actually look like men XD

Dear Lord. Those photos ... *fans flushed cheeks*

Scorching. M/M erotica definitely has it's place, but sometimes you can't beat seeing two beautiful men at it. And that website is quite obviously sent from heaven. Thanks for sharing, it's brightened up my rather dull evening no end! *g*

Glad to have shared the boylove! :) Did you go to both websites? (Slomovits' own site and the gallery with "ti amo")? Yeah, that's some gorgeous stuff.

Hello! Just wanted to drop by and tell that I adore your writings. I discovered House only two months ago (it began airing in Finland last autumn but because I don't watch TV almost at all I missed it until now) but I've seen all the episodes now. Among the watching, I've enjoyed your commentaries very much. Intelligent, attentive and speculative. Your H/W is also pure love. Most writers (as far as I've read) have trouble making House IC enough, but you manage it perfectly. Keep up the good work :)

p.s. nice to see another Sigur Rós listener!

Hello yourself! Thanks so much; your comment has made my day. I'm sure as you continue to explore what's out there, you'll come across many stories with truly excellent characterization. Have you been working off any recommendation lists? [livejournal.com profile] topaz_eyes had a brilliant one, but she's taken her journal offline (hopefully temporarily). I'd be happy to share links to anything you're looking for in particular if I can. We're really very fortunate to have so many bright, creative people in the House fandom on LiveJournal, producing lots of high-quality commentary/meta and fic. I'm so thrilled you think I'm one of them. Sometimes when I write those episode reviews I feel that they're very silly and dashed-off.

So you're from Finland? I have a friend in Copenhagen who was also able to start watching House only recently. Are you working your way through from the beginning?

Ah, I see your LJ is in Finnish. Just about all I can understand on there is the mention of Sigur Rós halfway down the page, the name Gregory House, and the French. :)

Very nice to meet you!

I have checked out some rec lists, including the one by [livejournal.com profile] topaz_eyes. If you have some all-time-favourite fics (though I already have read some of those fics you've tagged your favourite), I'd like to read them. And you're right, there are many very creative and fine authors in here. Let me correct myself: if they have problems with their writing, those problems are most likely about House coming up too nice and not sarcastic.

I watched the episodes in a mixed order, which made me feel a little confused... I saw the first season's eps 17-22 on TV, then I downloaded the rest of the first season, then rented second season's eps 1-8 and 17-24 from a video renting (they weren't all available :D) and then downloaded the third season and rented the rest of second season.

Yes, my LJ is in Finnish. I feel somewhat uncomfortable expressing myself in English and write only about things that happen (or don't happen) in my life, so it may be quite boring. :--)
