Hm, good question. I haven't seen anything mentioned besides the contemporary Native American homeless population in Tulsa, where director/writer Harjo has lived. Regardless, WOW, I had never heard of the Tulsa Massacre before. We definitely did not learn about it in school, which is doubly interesting after reading the section on the Wikipedia page about deliberate burial of that history on the local and national level.
