House T minus 0: "Don't Ever Change"
Discussion of "Frozen" yesterday and today has been fantastic, and has made me incredibly happy and grateful to have many of you on my f-list.
I am now going to undo all that collective intelligence with as-it-airs "commentary."
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
Oh my God, they went there.
They drew it out, they didn't laugh -- House was honestly disturbed -- they just went there.
:D
...
HOLY CRAP. They just discussed House/Wilson.
For a few seconds, they actually had me going.
I am so happy.
I know that now it is just as silly and meaningless as House's comment to Stacy in "The Mistake" about his obsession with sneakers, etc., but it lasted longer, and there was more genuine emotion between them and beneath the surface, so it was ultimately more satisfying.
...
Aaah! Thirteen! Just when I thought I couldn't love her more!
Now everyone on the show can canonically be paired with her!
Oh, love. Love. Thank you, show, for doing something different -- different for you, and still unusual for TV.
...
Aah! Just when I thought I couldn't like Kutner more! Well, okay, I did think I could, but now he's a sci fi fan!
...
"You'll never lose your friend, House."
Oh, Cuddy. Oh, House.
"Her needs are going to feed your needs until all that's left is a Wilson chalk outline on the floor."
Oh, CUDDY. Oh, Wilson.
They care. They care, they care, they care, and they're showing it.
...
"Am I in this relationship for you, or am I in it for him?"
Someone needs to write House/Wilson/Amber conduit fic, STAT. Where the guy is the stand-in for the het pairing instead of the girl being the stand-in for the slash pairing.
And then Amber was the conduit for House and Wilson in the restaurant. And maybe House is getting in between Wilson and Amber. Oh, the permutations. Oh, the anger and hotness.
...
House said "flaming bag of poop." Is that a common image, or did Doris Egan lift that from LJ's v-gifts?
I continue to love how House knows so much about Judaism. It can't just be his friendship with Wilson that's informed him. I wonder if -- well, Blythe isn't much of a Jewish name, but I suspect that some key figure in his youth was Jewish.
Nice references to "House vs. God," from the return of the need neediness debate (and finally, Wilson protested) to House calling himself Dr. Yahweh to Chase saying, "And by God, of course, I mean you."
I love that House got to solve a case using his nephrology background for a change. That makes his epiphany more believable than usual.
Also, his hands so gentle and yet firm on the patient's ribs? Mmmmm. I'm not sure who I would rather be: the patient under those hands, or Amber in Wilson's sweatshirt.
...Oh, who am I kidding?
...
House said Amber is the female him (the fact that she isn't notwithstanding). House said Wilson was sleeping with the female him. Wilson did not disagree. Then Wilson outright agreed. Then Wilson and House discussed how they've practically been dating for years. Then House grilled Amber. Then Amber said she actually, really, truly liked him -- or at least liked what he was giving her. Then House and Wilson discussed how Wilson can attempt a significant long-term relationship like what he has with House. And House... accepted it, even though he is risking losing Wilson.
Words. Words cannot express. It doesn't matter if you prefer them platonically or ... slashically -- it's still a gorgeous and funny affirmation of their strange and enduring devotion.

And gah, Wilson complimenting House's eyes and admitting they're a couple!
He recovered nicely from that shattered look on his face in the bar, no? Like House had pointed out something he'd been hoping to hide or didn't know was there...cue the fic. Kutner probably writes slash about everyone he works with anyway.

Thirteen is rising on my list of Girls I'd Go Gay For. Seriously. If she'd had her suspenders tonight, that would've been it. Spontaneous combustion.
Like House had pointed out something he'd been hoping to hide or didn't know was there...
Love it. Love it.
And you know what? I don't want the fic. Like how I don't want the stair-falling fic. What has all the House/Wilson fic been doing since season one, if not playing on all the things House and Wilson brought up tonight? It's not new for the 'shippers -- but boy, was it new for the show to outright acknowledge all that, and not (immediately) write it all off as a joke.
Okay, well, no -- it would be fine if people take the conversations from tonight and have House and Wilson confront each other again about it, but if they all turn into first-time fics, it'll get old fast.
Threesomes, however, would be acceptable. :)

Also, Hugh Laurie has some eyes on him. Every time he does that devious little smile and looks up from under his lashes I DIE OF JOY.

Hope this doesn't sound like a downer or prediction, but this episode felt like a series ending episode to me. They tied up House & Wilson's relationship with a bow, and it makes me a little nervous.
I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow.

I don't remember the lines well enough to say for sure, but (a) maybe he wanted to get the hell out of there already and jumped at the chance, figuring it's not hard to get another hotel room if they break up, and (b) maybe he planted false information knowing House was going to stalk him, like he planted false info about the restaurant in his datebook.

They also sort of tied up House's antagonism to religion.
I would be very sad if the show doesn't come back after the strike, but if it had to end suddenly, this is not a bad way to go.

I am just so moved that *House* was willing to make a sacrifice for *Wilson*. Of his own volition. Maybe Cate was wrong, and House can be nicer than he seems. Or, he needs more time to plot (and maybe have a threesome).
And you have to admit it is cute that Amber calls Wilson "Wilson". (At least to House!)
Sorry for all the disjointedness. I am not quite in my right mind.

And House's heartbreaking look! He has Wilson's love and respect already, and when Amber said that I think he realized how valuable it was. THAT'S really when he saw himself in Amber: they're both that person who wants respect, who is considered cold, evil, what have you, by others. But Wilson is the one who can see beyond that. I think House was touched at her vulnerability of needing that love because House, of course, needs it himself. He could recognize how he would feel if someone took it away from him, and so he realized he couldn't try and take it away from Amber either.

And I'm so happy Amber got to be a person, and Wilson got to have something with her. Broken pattern or no, it's been a long time coming.

I definitely need to watch this episode again (and again).

You know, I don't think that's the case? I think they really actually MEANT it this time, given how they harped on the theme THE WHOLE EPISODE THROUGH. It was half the point! o____o;;;
I can't believe that just happened. We were right??

You know, I was actually on the edge of my seat as House began to spin through all those theories about Wilson and Amber; it was FRANTIC! And he's never frantic! I started panicking because I realized HE was panicking! But oh, what a thing of beauty, that unpacking of Issues upon Issues we've been observing for years...
Doris Egan LOVES US.

I'm flattered to have my meta cited; do you mind putting my LJ username on it, since topaz_eyes and nekocatmanga got credit? Not to act like a second-grader or anything, it's really not a big deal.
