House T minus 0: "Don't Ever Change"

Discussion of "Frozen" yesterday and today has been fantastic, and has made me incredibly happy and grateful to have many of you on my f-list.

I am now going to undo all that collective intelligence with as-it-airs "commentary."

Oh my God.

Oh my God.

Oh my God, they went there.

They drew it out, they didn't laugh -- House was honestly disturbed -- they just went there.

:D

...

HOLY CRAP. They just discussed House/Wilson.

For a few seconds, they actually had me going.

I am so happy.

I know that now it is just as silly and meaningless as House's comment to Stacy in "The Mistake" about his obsession with sneakers, etc., but it lasted longer, and there was more genuine emotion between them and beneath the surface, so it was ultimately more satisfying.

...

Aaah! Thirteen! Just when I thought I couldn't love her more!

Now everyone on the show can canonically be paired with her!

Oh, love. Love. Thank you, show, for doing something different -- different for you, and still unusual for TV.

...

Aah! Just when I thought I couldn't like Kutner more! Well, okay, I did think I could, but now he's a sci fi fan!

...

"You'll never lose your friend, House."

Oh, Cuddy. Oh, House.

"Her needs are going to feed your needs until all that's left is a Wilson chalk outline on the floor."

Oh, CUDDY. Oh, Wilson.

They care. They care, they care, they care, and they're showing it.

...

"Am I in this relationship for you, or am I in it for him?"

Someone needs to write House/Wilson/Amber conduit fic, STAT. Where the guy is the stand-in for the het pairing instead of the girl being the stand-in for the slash pairing.

And then Amber was the conduit for House and Wilson in the restaurant. And maybe House is getting in between Wilson and Amber. Oh, the permutations. Oh, the anger and hotness.

...

House said "flaming bag of poop." Is that a common image, or did Doris Egan lift that from LJ's v-gifts?

I continue to love how House knows so much about Judaism. It can't just be his friendship with Wilson that's informed him. I wonder if -- well, Blythe isn't much of a Jewish name, but I suspect that some key figure in his youth was Jewish.

Nice references to "House vs. God," from the return of the need neediness debate (and finally, Wilson protested) to House calling himself Dr. Yahweh to Chase saying, "And by God, of course, I mean you."

I love that House got to solve a case using his nephrology background for a change. That makes his epiphany more believable than usual.

Also, his hands so gentle and yet firm on the patient's ribs? Mmmmm. I'm not sure who I would rather be: the patient under those hands, or Amber in Wilson's sweatshirt.

...Oh, who am I kidding?

...

House said Amber is the female him (the fact that she isn't notwithstanding). House said Wilson was sleeping with the female him. Wilson did not disagree. Then Wilson outright agreed. Then Wilson and House discussed how they've practically been dating for years. Then House grilled Amber. Then Amber said she actually, really, truly liked him -- or at least liked what he was giving her. Then House and Wilson discussed how Wilson can attempt a significant long-term relationship like what he has with House. And House... accepted it, even though he is risking losing Wilson.

Words. Words cannot express. It doesn't matter if you prefer them platonically or ... slashically -- it's still a gorgeous and funny affirmation of their strange and enduring devotion.

I feel as if the big things were too much to absorb in one viewing, and so I was basking in the little things too. Like House's wink. Like Wilson's face while Cuddy was trying to reach out to him by the pharmacy. Like Wilson's line about not wanting to date "perfect," and his look of mixed awe and annoyance when she browbeat the maitre d' into seating them. Like Thirteen's look of shock in the MRI room when she was discovered, and Foreman being so intuitive but, for once, not judgmental. Like Kutner's sudden overflow of sci fi & fantasy references. Like Thirteen and the husband gently helping the patient celebrate Shabbat. Yes yes yes.

And I'm so happy Amber got to be a person, and Wilson got to have something with her. Broken pattern or no, it's been a long time coming.

That seems to be what Wilson does - he allows people like House and Amber to be human, which is a lovely thing.
