Heads up, Housefic writers: awwsugah has been reposting other people's stories on her MySpace and passing them off as her own. She's got stuff by daasgrrl, cryptictac, maineac, isagel, soundship, evila_elf, genagirl, jaryn_, elynittria, sam_storyteller, and others. (Not me, though. I guess my stuff isn't good enough. Heh.) Yeah. I don't get why she didn't "dispose of the evidence" either (and asked her so in her response (awwsugah.livejournal.com/126858.html)). In her post, Awwsugah said she stopped blogging the stolen stories after she joined LJ fandom, but I also asked Cryptictac if she remembers the dates working out like that, because I'm very curious.

Yes, she and firestorm717 had their work stolen and repackaged as a single (disjointed) story on an outside website by a young man who also had an LJ. I do not believe it was the same person, though.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't awwsugah - it was some delusional kid in the Prairies. He never did reply directly to my emails or acknowledge what he did, but he did eventually remove the material from the website once I posted a comment on his LJ. Not to excuse what awwsugah did, and perhaps it's just lip service, but at least she recognises that she did something seriously wrong.

So I guess technically I don't get to join the club, but can I be a member for this incident?

Uhm. Thanks for the heads-up. I just found out about awwsugah's plagiarizing of cryptictac's work.

Small correction: Esse's (aka paradise_city story "A Love Restrained" was plagiarized, not mine. Either way, it still sucks. It appears awwsugah took older (2005-early 2006) House fics.

Fix'd. It does sucketh mightily, indeed, and the whole situation is very strange, including Awwsugah's two overly dramatic replies. 'Twill be interesting to see how it all plays out. At the very least, I hope it serves as a warning to others who may have been considering or already committing plagiarism within fandom.

I feel kind of sorry for her, although I don't know her personally (or virtually personally, I suppose I should say). It's obvious that she's young and troubled, and she's really being dumped on (quite nastily at times) by people who are only peripherally affected by her actions. I'm definitely not saying that plagiarism is right or should be excused, but it would be nice if people were kinder to each other and tried to understand and forgive.

I agree that some of those comments were very nasty (I hope mine came across more measured than hurtful), unnecessarily so, even considering the nature of her transgression and the fact that there's really only peer disapproval as punishment. Your reply was very gracious and respectful. Forgiveness is a good thing, but people need to learn that there are better ways to deal with loneliness etc. than taking someone else's work and pretending it's their own.

Awwww, I totally steal your work, bironic . If you, know, I didn't have morals. Stupid morals. :0) I feel sort of strange about the whole thing since I like her RPGing, but I also used one of her stories for a MST. Mostly, I just feel sorry for her. I'd hate to be that pathetic.

Several people have mentioned here and elsewhere that they enjoy her RPs and would be sorry to see her stop. It's truly odd that someone would plagiarize when she's not half bad at writing. I mean, I can imagine why, and she's tried to explain herself, but still. Copying should be for the hopeless, not the reasonably talented.
