I feel kind of sorry for her, although I don't know her personally (or virtually personally, I suppose I should say). It's obvious that she's young and troubled, and she's really being dumped on (quite nastily at times) by people who are only peripherally affected by her actions. I'm definitely not saying that plagiarism is right or should be excused, but it would be nice if people were kinder to each other and tried to understand and forgive.

I agree that some of those comments were very nasty (I hope mine came across more measured than hurtful), unnecessarily so, even considering the nature of her transgression and the fact that there's really only peer disapproval as punishment. Your reply was very gracious and respectful. Forgiveness is a good thing, but people need to learn that there are better ways to deal with loneliness etc. than taking someone else's work and pretending it's their own.
