bironic: Neil Perry gazing out a window at night (Default)
Hello my darlings,

I have arrived safely in England and am now mostly caught up on sleep. One of the next orders of business will be to catch up on correspondences. Internet access is limited by not wanting to hog my hostesses' computer nor spend all day in front of one, and I don't think I will have any access next week while in Denmark, but I will do my darnedest to keep up with everyone. (Woe alas, for all the House/Wilson fic must wait! Withdrawal! Agony!) But 'tis a small tradeoff for being in Europe for two weeks instead of at work.

It's strange to be back here again. Maybe it was the being up for 34 out of the previous 36 hours, but walking around central London yesterday felt perfectly normal, as if it hadn't been a little more than a year since I'd done it. From time to time I wonder how it is that I know London better than Manhattan, and then I remember that I never lived in NYC for six months.

Having a lovely time so far. [livejournal.com profile] maddy_harrigan and [livejournal.com profile] catilinarian not only met me at Heathrow, they also held a big green sign that said "WELCOME BACK, MOONY" and which had stars and German Harry Potter stickers and a picture of PoA-movie!Snape going "Werewolf werewolf werewolf"; we trekked up to the flat in Hackney, deposited the suitcase and had lunch; Catherine and I took the scenic bus route down to Tottenham Court Road, where we walked a few blocks further so she could introduce me to the multi-floored, block-long glory that is Foyles bookstore (I only got one book in the hourish we spent browsing, Hugh Laurie's The Gun Seller -- all the cool kids are reading it, and I figured if I were going to give in, I may as well do so in England); we wandered down to the National Gallery, lolled on the grass out front and then gazed at the medieval art for an hour; and then I was treated to the first full dress rehearsal of Julius Caesar at a church in Hampstead in which my other hostess plays several of the smaller roles. An enjoyable day all in all, nice weather, good company, and if all goes as planned I'll get to see Catherine2 this afternoon. And not get lost navigating the buses on my way back.

And so adieu for now.
