Five happy things
Nov. 9th, 2011 06:02 pmI wrote this yesterday but forgot to email it to myself from the office, so here it is now. Everything is still true.
1. I had to return this pair of chunky/buckle-y boots I was so excited about because they really didn't fit, and none of the other pairs in the store were exciting, so I was a bit sad to not have any boots after all. But then the same afternoon I found a sleek pair in JC Penney of all places, and oh my goodness they are so comfy. Boots, I now have some! One more gap in the "basic" wardrobe filled for your fashion-challenged correspondent. & the shape of the toe even looks like old-school Trek boots. A lady complimented them and my skirt on the way to work today. \o/
2. We learned a hornpipe called "Garden of Daisies" in dance class. Simple enough, and pleasing. Last class I'd felt very frustrated because we were short an instructor and my side of the room didn't learn anything at all, after not having learned much in the several weeks prior either. So, fixed, for now.
3. Pretty good weekend. While I did not get back to my Festivid, I did get to have a mini-sleepover with
deelaundry followed by dinner the next day; had lunch and checked out a Degas exhibit with friend A.; ran errands and got the above-mentioned boots; finished some freelance stuff whose time is ticking down; and went to a spur-of-the-moment dinner with
alpheratz and her houseguests.
After the art exhibit, A. and I went to a screening of the Finnish/French film Le Havre at the annual EU Film Festival, which is always a highlight of the year entertainment-wise. That is where I first encountered The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, for example (the Danish/Swedish version; seriously do not want to discuss the remake). We will be seeing several others in the next couple of weeks, including A Dangerous Method, a.k.a. Freud, Jung and their patient do S/M, and the packed-with-fandom-favorites Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, at which Gary Oldman will be appearing in person!!
4. Travel plans are such that for the first time in years, I will be able to see NY fan friends over Thanksgiving weekend. Looks like it will include at least
no_detective,
linaerys and
ahab99. Ugh, I have missed them & the rest of the gang.
5. I amnesty-posted a House fic last Monday, for those wot are interested.

Date: Nov. 10th, 2011 12:32 am (UTC)I'm on the fence about whether I want to see A Dangerous Method, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for your report, and I'm pretty sure I'll end up seeing TTSS because...y'know.

Date: Nov. 10th, 2011 12:58 am (UTC)Yeah, the boots were great-looking but my toes were pinched and my heels were slipping free, and in the end I voted for practicality over aesthetics and returned them. :( But happily the new pair is both pretty and comfy.
