Date: Jun. 20th, 2012 01:53 am (UTC)I blame a lot of the unpleasantness in House fandom during S6/S7 on GY. Ugh. Really glad I stayed away from all that. Even if I did miss the occasional behind-the-scenes tidbit about, like, RSL eating two kinds of cake for lunch.
Or perhaps TPTB need lessons in how to engage their fandoms in a neutral manner. Yes - or even better, in a constructive manner. Responsibility and awareness of consequences are always good things.
so does this mean fandom operates on the Cult of Personality more than anything? I think for that point it was more like, If that fandom rests largely on the shoulders of a central fan, and something happens to that fan, then the fandom can falter. But I think it's still fair to say that BNFs and whatnot wield significant influence on which fandoms hold the majority's attention at any given time...
