Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] vividcon. Who among you is going? I know [livejournal.com profile] kassrachel is, and I'm assuming [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 and [livejournal.com profile] anoel? [personal profile] xenakis?

Before I ask at the comm: Anyone looking for a non-bed-sharing roommate, by the by?

.

An angle that didn't come up in the anonymity discussion at con.txt and which occurred to me again yesterday is from the perspective of someone who's posted work anonymously before, as a temporary measure during a meme round or a fest (i.e. Festivids): It gives you the opportunity to receive feedback that is more likely to be honest, or perceived as honest, especially when it's from people who know you online. When I post a fic or a vid without my LJ name attached to it and someone I know and respect leaves a positive comment, I feel better about it than I do when I post it as myself. You can be sure they're not just being nice because they're your friend/acquaintance. Also, if you ask for concrit, they might be more likely to leave it if your name's not on it. (Maybe. You guys are good about that when I ask!)

I don't think I'd like leaving a creative work permanently anonymous, though. Too much ego, as a friend put it recently when talking about her own work. This way I get to eat my feedback and claim it, too.

(The other nice thing about the anonymity period at Festivids is the equalizing factor: People don't only watch vids by the big names, because there are no big names. Everyone gets a shot. Well, given other factors in play, like which fandoms are more popular and whatnot.)

.

More Kink Bingo ramp-up essays to recommend: [personal profile] toft's post on AUs and Kink. She describes it in her journal thusly: "It's about ways to use worldbuilding to kinky purpose, the history of sexuality, and some examples of fantasy/sci-fi AUs that alter the way kink is perceived within them." The essay covers a few reasons for creating AUs for Kink Bingo, such as '(1) The costumes!, 2) the different kinds of technology, and 3) the way the context changes the kink,' and includes a list of resources.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry posted about that "peculiar bouquet," vanilla kink. Some interesting angles in there I hadn't thought about before. Full disclosure on the reccing front that she's my friend and I gave the post a quick beta. :)

In sum: IS IT TIME FOR KINK BINGO YET

I'm definitely going and I look forward to seeing you! I'd offer you a room space but one of my roomies only wants 3 people in the room this year. Hope you find something!

I like that about anon, too. While in House I did actually post a couple of things through a sockpuppet (there were reasons), and I did treasure the feedback I got, because it wasn't anything to do with 'me'. It was rather freeing *g*

CANNOT WAIT FOR VIVIDCON. \o/

Also: I am totally waffling. Kink bingo or hurt_comfort bingo? They both sound like so much fun! Clearly I should be writing more from my id, one way or another.

I seem to remember someone once signed up for more than one Bingo and overlaid their cards for a double challenge. *hint hint*

I can't decide! Overlaying the cards sounds overwhelming. And I feel like I create far fewer fanworks now than I used to -- last time I did k-b I was so into McShep that I wrote John/Rodney stories for every square in my bingo, and right now I'm not sure I can do that with any of my current active fandoms. And yet both of these sound like so much fun...

I too enjoy an anonymous challenge. I rarely write, and it's nice to do it a couple of times a year and have the reaction based solely on quality (...and fandom. pairing, and summary) than on my mainly-unknown username.

Vividcon sounds kind of awesome. Maybe next year?

I expect it involves a hot pair of heels!

You have made me think about doing a dressup thing for Club Vivid too. I seem to remember two Star Trek dresses in 2010... maybe I can do a DS9 uniform, ooh. Or is it more typical to just do a corsets and capes and other random sparklies thing?

Very much looking forward to meeting you as well! Hopefully I will not fail all weekend at making conversation.

Oh, good; it still sounds quiet when I try it on my test DVD here.

I was thinking of you & your vid show while watching said test DVD over the weekend, when it occurred to me that I've done another vid set to a song from a musical, Anything For You (SGA) (http://bironic.livejournal.com/261081.html) (Oliver!). That is going to be a fun vidshow, especially coming so early in the con.

I'm excited! I didn't manage to finish my premiere for it, but that's okay because I had a Priscilla Queen of the Desert vid as an alternate, so I think it makes up for the lack of a Glee vid in that vidshow. I've got bandom, j-pop, Smash, musical theather songs, Hunger Games... it seems like the most eclectic vidshow ever and I love it.

I'd been half thinking of it, actually. When and where is it, again? And do I remember that the con fee is around $100? I don't know if I can swing flights+hotel+con right now because my computer is dying, but I do want to. /o\

And either way, we totally need the post-con viewing! Depending on when, we might be able to swing it at my place with the big tv, though we'd probably still only be able to fit 5-10 people even if we move the furniture.

Ya, we will figure it out.

Registration is $90 plus an optional wristband to drink during Club Vivid. Hotel is ~100/night, which is why it would be nice to split. The flight is the worst part. I got my tickets "on sale" and it's still way more than it should be for nation's capital <--> major midwest city. But then, my brain's still stuck on pre-2001 fares.

Haha, actually it involves a pair of sensible old lady shoes as I didn't want to fall over on the dancefloor!

I don't think there's any specific costume code, you just wear whatever. Some people usually go with the theme of their CVV vid, but not always. My costume has nothing to do with any of my vids this year.

I'm terrible at small talk, so we can just stare at each other awkwardly for a bit before mutually stalking away in opposite directions.

I am going to VividCon! Kinda terrified about it, as usual; think I'm going to research coping techniques for "OMG everything is terrifying and it's supposed to be fun!!1" ;)

This way I get to eat my feedback and claim it, too.

Heh, well put. The anonymity lets you know the feedback was really meant, and the reveal lets everyone know the feedback was really meant ...for you. \o/

I am going to VividCon!

!!! Oh, awesome. It will be really cool to finally meet you in person (even if, as mentioned to obsessive24 above, my ability to sustain conversation leaves a little something to be desired, especially in the morning at cons :) ). And a bit funny that it won't happen in Boston after all.

The anonymity lets you know the feedback was really meant, and the reveal lets everyone know the feedback was really meant ...for you. \o/

It does sound terrible, doesn't it? Heh. & of course that's not to say that the feedback is always good, or that the feedbackers aren't themselves anonymous... Ah, well. 's nice that we can be honest about our wants and behaviors.

You're not looking to share a room at VVC, btw, are you? I'm usually happy to have a room to myself and to leave others to their preferred social lives, but on the other hand when I saw the estimated total when I booked my two-twin beds room for Thu-Fri-Sat nights it made me wince. So - no pressure, just thought I'd ask.

I think I'm sharing a room with [livejournal.com profile] franzeska. ...Unless I got that wrong, in which case, I would be delighted to room with you. I should really go triple-check that, eek.
