I've got a sudden hankering for summer-at-the-beach romance stories. Do you know of any good ones?

If fanfic, doesn't matter what fandoms or genders. Long, slow burn would be great. One-shot PWP also good.

So far, I found The Summer Holds A Song (We Might Sing Forever) by annundriel and Obstinatrix (Supernatural AU, Castiel/Dean). And Past the Breakers by thepsychicclam (Teen Wolf, Derek/Stiles), which is shaky on the emotional arc but a good enough genre fit to keep going.

I've got A Troubling of Hummingbirds (Bandom, Brendon/Spencer, 11k) which is beautiful, takes place in their beachhouse over the summer, and All In The Way That You Trip (Bandom, Brendon/Spencer, 22k), which is a more melancholy, angsty (and beautiful!) Harlequin AU - I read it a few years ago, but that's what I remember.

If summer cabin by the lake in Canada is also acceptable, I have a bunch of hockey fics to rec too :-)

ETA: okay, since I'm about to go to sleep, I'll just go ahead and rec those anyway:

happiness is not a fish (that you can catch) (Hockey RPF, Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews, 51k). Where Jonny takes Patrick home to the cabin for the summer, and tries to prove that he's for real.

Still Waters (Hockey RPF, Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews, 7k). Where Jonny invites Patrick to his cabin along with a few friends, testing the waters of being together in front of other people, so they can consider the notion of being together and maybe coming out in the future.

there ain't nothing please me more than you (Hockey RPF, Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews, 11k). Tbh I don't remember too much about this but that it has a lot of sex, and boats, and fishing.

Hope there is something to your liking in here <3

If you like, I'll write you something along those lines with House and Wilson. :)

Oh, what a generous offer. I wouldn't ask that of you, though. Not least because it's entirely possible that by the time it was done, this craving will have passed!

The Pure and Simple Truth by lettered
I recced it last year: "Lettered wrote 70000 words by accident. It doesn't feel anywhere close to that long; it sings along; it's all fast dialogue, zing, snap, bellylaugh, whee! and I wanted twice as much. It's the warmest, richest, kindest story I've read in a long, long time, populated with people I grew to love very much, people with busy minds and big ideas, slowly healing wounds and silly jokes, pettiness and heroism and effort, and we get to see it all. Harry grounds the story with his common decency; Draco elevates it with his yearning. Lettered labels it gen, wanting, I suppose, to avoid pitchforks when folks get to the end and find there's no hawt sex, but the truth is there's a slow, cautious, inevitable love story at work inside it. It's a novel almost entirely made up of conversation; it's about conversation, the chemistry that happens when people talk to each other. It's about listening and being heard."

"Anyway, hair?" Malfoy still looked amused. "I'm surprised. That's so . . ."
"Girly?" Harry said. "It's true, they had to warm up to it."
"Did they now?"
"They had to talk about meta-ethics and the philosophy of moral universalism first," said Harry.

Expectation Fails by lilinas
Glee D/s 'verse with bonus age difference and student/teacher stuff, but by god she actually handles it, for the most part, rather than blithely hand-waving all those weird, power-related squick triggers. It is not everything I ever wanted, but there's some beautiful kink in here -- mostly orgasm denial-related. My favourite story, which you can read as a short standalone, is "United Commutual," in which Kurt and Blaine hammer out their contract.

Glee D/s AU again, except not of the scifi/spec biological determinism kind! Just: what if Kurt and Blaine were kinkier than we have seen them to be in canon? This is actually gorgeous and delicate and smart, and written by someone who knows her shit. Very short, doesn't even break PG-13, highly recced. Isn't it weird that our-world BDSM fic seems so much rarer right now than alt-verse spec fic BDSM? Hrm. There's a there, there, isn't there?

Fidelity by wowbright
This definitely fits your long, summer slow burn criteria, except, bonus! It's a slow build to a threesome with an established, loving couple and a closeted, reformed high school bully. So you get tons of great character work and delicious boyfriend porn all throughout and the anticipation of the big, revelatory moment! Glee, again (sorry).

YAY, thank you. I love what I've read of lettered's work (but haven't tried the one you mention), and no apologies necessary for the multiple Glee recs; I'm happy to experience more of what that fandom has to offer under your trusted guidance.

Will let you know how it goes!
