I picked up my book trailer draft again this week and by Jove, it's actually coming together! My new goal is to have it finished by June 10 for a Vividcon themed show. This time I think the deadline is really possible -- especially if any of you have ideas for where to look for clips to plug in the gaps. No book knowledge necessary in order to help.

Goals/constraints:

(1) I'm stitching together short clips from an array of science fiction sources -- or sources that could look like science fiction in the context of this vid -- to give an impression of the book universe. Shying away from immediately recognizable shots wherever possible; basically the opposite of Starships!.

(2) Anyone who can be seen in the vid needs to be dark-skinned.

(3) I'd like to avoid big-name stars unless they're shown from the back or in silhouette or something. I want people watching it to think "Mianaai" or "Seivarden" (or "character from the book," at least), not "Zoe Saldana" or "Idris Elba." But the vid isn't focusing on faces anyway.

From most to least important, I'm looking for scenes of:

  • Interior, space station, promenade-type large space, maybe eateries and shops, people milling about - all humans, no aliens
  • Someone banging on or drilling into a shuttle/pod in space, or someone in a space suit trying to force their way into an airlock
  • (a) Someone falling off or dangling from a bridge, in daylight, mountain/valley setting if any background is visible; ledges & cliffs might also work [and yes, I've made my way through the "Literal Cliffhanger" lists at TVTropes]
  • (b) Someone grabbing for the dangler and/or someone jumping off, daylight, etc.
  • (c) Two people (holding on to each other) falling through the air, daylight, etc.
  • Someone getting shot inside a ship - if SF source doesn't come to mind, could probably fake it with submarine, weapons locker, server room, etc.
  • Soldiers eating/drinking in mess cabin
  • Interior, spaceship, halls
  • Non-iconic big flat spaceship, bonus points if it looks like an aircraft carrier
  • City or town built on top of or next to a swamp
  • Temple/religious ceremony?

Many thanks for your suggestions as I also continue to scour movies and TV shows on my own! And thanks to those who offered ideas in the last round; many of those suggestions have brought the draft to where it is now, approaching 3/4 complete. ♥

Is Dayna from Blake's 7 too recognizable? Because I bet she's got a bunch of clips you could use.

The beginning of the pilot of Firefly has blasting into a space ship.

Interior, space station, promenade-type large space, maybe eateries and shops, people milling about - all humans, no aliens

Oops, I wish I'd been keeping notes on the scifi movies and shows I've been rejecting from my project for being all human...

I'm afraid I don't know Blake's 7 that well.

It's the first scene in Firefly after the prologue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWXI4y6ItYU#t=5m50s

Did you try The Expanse? I'm watching it currently and it ticks at least some of your needs for space station settings.

Would Babylon 5 be too recognizable for interior space station, market, and restaurant shots? Granted, it's 90s as hell, and chock full of white actors and aliens, but I bet some shots could be had that might work.

Someone getting shot inside a ship - if SF source doesn't come to mind, could probably fake it with submarine, weapons locker, server room, etc.

This happens in a submarine in the sarah connor chronicles in the second season in the two part ep that has Jessie Flores backstory. (Today is the Day pts 1 &2) There is at least one person (white male) who is shot, there is a black man who is actually a terminator who is shot and there might be more. There are some mess hall scenes as well.

Firefly comes to mind for several of these, but I also think that Firefly might be too iconic.

If I think of any more I'll let you know!

Actually thinking about it more the white man who gets killed on the submarine in TSCC might get beaten to death. But the terminator captain definitely get shot and I believe there are other gunshots as well.

Would a young Asian character be usable for you? I can think of one episode that involved an urchin-esque female browsing (and shoplifting) in the market/bazaar.

Soldiers eating/drinking in mess cabin - Anything from SGA you can use?

Interior, space station, promenade-type large space, maybe eateries and shops, people milling about - all humans, no aliens - Have you already looked through Total Recall?
