1. The "Elf" vid is pretty much ready to go, pending one last beta's feedback. Hemming and hawing on whether to post tomorrow evening (Eastern) or Saturday morning. Probably the weekend. I don't know anymore when the best times are to post things. Do you?

2. Friday morning's low is predicted to be 3 degrees F. Factoring in wind chill, -15. I might need to figure out an alternative plan to get to the office that involves less exposure to the elements, since telework isn't an option. By Jove, though, I'm going to book club tomorrow. It's Vorkosigan night at last.

3. Facing the return of Arctic chill and armed with expiring coupons, I went boot shopping after work. Found two fun burgundy pairs but I didn't have enough brain to decide between them so I ended up bringing them both home, where I can try them out more extensively and decide which one to keep. I was leaning toward the chunkier, more wintery ones in the store, but the shiny, better-with-a-skirt ones are calling to me now. (They're redder than that picture suggests.) Opinions welcome. They were the same price ($34), so that's not a factor.

4. Watched some TV. I don't seem to have the werewithal to review with substance, but we can talk: the newly released third season of Mozart in the Jungle, which I still don't know what to do with, and which nudged me from apathy about Hailey to active dislike; Grantchester season one, having already seen season two, both so lovely in story, pacing, setting and characterization; and The Fall season three, which might have been the best season of a very good show, or maybe that's because I especially liked all the medical procedure stuff and it didn't 50% consist of dead-eyed Jamie Dornan saying "Stella."

5. Started reading the latest Vampire Chronicles installment from Anne Rice: Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis. ~120 pages in, nothing in the text has rescued the title; the story still suffers from prose- and character bloat. Everyone is wearing very nice, very expensive clothes, all the male vamps still pleasantly go around either kissing one another and declaring their devotion or plotting revenge, and Lestat, although he has matured remarkably, still doesn't know why he does anything. BUT: Now there are aliens mixed with my vampires! Possibly even an alien at the root of vampirism. Two great tastes that taste great together? Or two great tastes whose combination has been failed by the chef? TBD.

Re boots... are you getting them primarily as winter boots, or as fashion boots? Because the first pair are obviously better as winter boots; the second pair will be more versatile especially if you ever do steampunk costuming, but they won't keep your feet warm like the others will. Perhaps it's time to embrace the power of "and". :-)

I will talk about Mozart in the Jungle!

I think I'm still in apathy about Hailey- what did she do to provoke your dislike? I'm interested, however, in seeing what a Rodrigo/Hailey relationship looks like, because all of Rodrigo's relationships are so horribly toxic that I'm curious what Rodrigo looks like in a relationship with someone who is at least somewhat grounded. But I wanted that to be the storyline this season, after the kiss that ended last season. I'm annoyed with the way they keep stringing it along. I don't have patience for stupid UST.

I'm a classical music nerd and I'm mostly in this show because of that. There was nothing as sublime this season as Joshua Bell and Lang Lang playing ping pong, but I liked the Thomas as an EDM star storyline an awful lot and wished it could have been a bigger part of the show. And I liked Cynthia's storyline and again, wanted more of it. In general, I wanted less of the Monica Bellucci storyline and more wacky New York Symphony hijinx. Bob as the Uber driver was great. All the little sight gags during the lock-in in the church were wonderful.

AND NICO MUHLY'S "AMY FISHER" WAS THE GREATEST THING EVER AND I AM SAD THAT THAT IS NOT AN OPERA THAT HE IS ACTUALLY WRITING BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE TICKETS FOR THAT THE DAY THEY WENT ON SALE. I HAVE WATCHED NICO MUHLY OPERAS WAY SHITTIER THAN THAT ARIA.

Ooh, I like the Mia (the chunky) but that's more my style, maybe not yours.

Have not yet watched S3 of Mozart in the Jungle.

Ooh, I like the shiny ones!

I have knee-high red Doc Martens, and knee-high shiny black patent Doc Martens, and I pretty much alternate between them all winter. But red and shiny at the same time is a combination that is hard to beat. :-)

Ooooh, I like the wintery boots!

I sympathize with the temperatures. That's cold down there, even worse b/c of the humidity. We've been at 3 degrees F for our highs the last few days, but that's normal this time of year.

Stay warm!
