This general uptick in Dreamwidth activity has been great. Hello, new friending meme people! I should do an intro post soon about things I'm into these days. Tonight, though, I am packing for a trip to my mom's and more or less beta-watching a documentary by a coworker. Or—*checks clock*—possibly neither of these things. It was sort of a rough day.
Reading update: Three books came in today at the library: Binti and Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor, spurred by the monthly SF/F book club I go to, and A Woman Looking at Men Looking at Women by Siri Hustvedt, which I am excited to dig into but may have to return and re-request because it's only a week-long loan and I'll be out of state when it's due back. Alas. Meanwhile, I've been picking through the e-book of Speculative Fiction 2014: The Year's Best Online Reviews, Essays and Commentary, a collection of reprints of SF/F fandom meta.
thingswithwings is in there!
Writing update: Need to work on an essay for a zine that's coming out in the spring, since it's due at the end of January. Details TBA. It sounds like it's gonna be cool.
Vidding update: Last fall on Twitter, I asked:
I'm happy to report that the answer is Yes. In fact, I may be able to squeeze in a fifth. It depends on how it goes at my mom's (she's having surgery; I'm making no commitments), but I've rewatched the source and started laying a few clips on the timeline. It's an idea I had a few
festivids ago and never got a chance to make somebody.
If that's not vague enough for you, how about this?
Statements I can't make about Festivids in progress
Ah, I'd forgotten that vidding [source] would let me put in [thing I like], [another thing I like] and [yet another thing I like].
This [clip] makes me [have an emotion] every time. (I hope it's not the only [target emotion] clip in this vid.)
No wonder I liked [character] in [source] – his [physical traits] look exactly like [character]'s in [other source]. Consistent taste is consistent.
I've been saying to friends that all I want from the [source] vid is for people who haven't seen [source] to go, "[Reaction.]" When I played the draft at
deelaundry's house, Mr.
deelaundry said, "[Reaction.]" \o/
I've decided I love [actor] and his [physical trait]. [redaaaaaaaacted].
Hey, I learned how to [do a thing]! Next, need to learn how to [do a different thing].
This song is still the best-worst.
Ooh, I'm glad I decided to watch [redacted], because I think I just found [something important].
What the hell, I don't even have feelings about [thing], except apparently I do.

There comes a time in every fan's life when one asks oneself, Can I make four Festivids in three and a half months?

Good luck! I had to let go of the idea of reviewing everything I take in; it was becoming too stressful.
