There was a discussion of Ella Enchanted on the dysfunctional-families support group where I hang out, in which someone talked about having expressed discomfort with the coerced-consent angle after watching it with a group of friends, and getting accused of being uptight about a kiddie movie. Um... aren't kiddie movies where we start being exposed to social mores? Where we learn what the people around us think is or is not acceptable behavior? The idea of coerced consent being played for laughs is pretty creepy to me.

ETA that I also think your issue with Manchester by the Sea is dead on, and a perfectly fair point to make.
