bironic: (sirius remus potter)
[personal profile] bironic
Anyone willing to beta-read and/or Britpick a 3,500ish-word Remus/Sirius fic sometime this week? It's due August 11th so there's time enough to make substantial changes if suggested.

And now, because it's such a nice one (and fun for me, getting to infuriate everyone by not confirming suspicions), a meme lifted from [livejournal.com profile] daasgrrl:

Take a look a your LJ friends list, then list up to ten things you want to say to ten different LJ friends... DO NOT state who these people are. DO NOT confirm nor deny any "comment speculation."

The original meme said to tag five people, which I'm not doing. Also, one of the items is for someone who has friended me but isn't on my flist. Just to throw you all off, heh.

1. Your comments consistently challenge me to refine my thinking, which is sometimes hard but also a nice change of pace. I hope you've been finding my responses thought-provoking as well.

2. It was great meeting you and I wish we'd had more time to talk. It's amazing how we can come from different countries and cultures and just "click" like that. I hope we stay in touch.

3. Where to begin? You've been through so much and emerged a vibrant, thoughtful, funny and delightfully irreverent person in spite of everything. You're also a fantastic ego-booster. :) I can't imagine not knowing you. Oh, and you should write more.

4. I wish you had more confidence in yourself. You are far more interesting, creative, thoughtful and quirky than most people, and you deserve to be happier.

5. I don't comment nearly enough on your LJ, but I read every post, even the ones you cut because you think people don't want to hear about it.

6. You're brilliant and funny and insightful—and hardly on LJ now, which makes me sad.

7. It is such a delight to know you (even though we have never met face-to-face) and to read your posts and comments that I hardly have words for it. You fill me with love. You're probably not going to think this is directed at you. Well, now you might.

8. I haven't known you for very long, but we think and write eerily similarly and it's fantastic.

9. I've also only recently befriended you, but I find myself frequently telling people about things you've said, and I have to use your screen name in the conversations because I don't know your real one, which sounds ridiculously silly.

10. I have enormous respect for what you're doing in fandom, even if you think it's insignificant and even if (if what you said once is true) some people find it pretentious. In fact, you've inspired me to do a similar thing, and it has had an enormous positive impact on my experience in fandom and sense of being part of a community. Thank you, and keep it up.

And I'm adding an extra one because it applies to several of you and because I want to say it.

11. I'm sorry that it always takes me so long to write back to you.

Wish I could go on. Love you all.

:: uses semi-matching icon and raises hand :: I can beta. I may be American but I'm a good Britpicker! (Hooray for writing and RPing Brits for years, as well as dating one. Hah.)

It's one-eyed chibi!Sirius! Lol. I had half a mind to crop my icon today for artistic purposes and now realize it's probably because of the way yours is done.

May very well take you up on the offer. I'm finishing up the last rough bits now; it should be done within a couple of days. It's weird, because I've written the third part before the first two. A fresh pair of eyes (with body & brain attached) would be really helpful for telling me whether the lead-in works or if the balance shifts oddly.

Hey :D Just letting you know, in case you didn't get my text, that I'm going to be at Long Beach tomorrow with a few of the NYC slashers and [livejournal.com profile] shabzilla. You fancy coming along?

If you wanna steal my cropped icon, feel free. I spent far too long deciding exactly how I wanted to crop it, so any extra use it gets means my time wasn't wasted. XD

Anyway, you know my email address. :) When you're done, just pop it into my inbox and I'll take a peek. ♥

Hm, no text. I have to be at work tomorrow from 9 to 6 -- how long do you think you'll be in Long Beach? It's not too far from the office... I may be able to sneak over really briefly during lunch break.

Well, we're meeting at the station at around 12.30, so I'm guessing we'll be there at lunchtime if you want to head over. No idea what our plans for the evening are, but you're welcome to hang out with us then as well if you like.

Okay. I'll see what happens at work tomorrow and what the logistics are of driving over there and finding parking (which can be tricky in summer) and whether it's feasible in my hour break. Will text if I'm coming; otherwise before 6 to see where you are?

Hey, if you'd like someone else to look over it (a different set of eyes) I'd be happy to do that, anytime. I don't live in the UK but England and NZ are pretty similar when in comes down to things - I'd be happy to point out any glaring Americanisms, should you need it. (I realise you've already got someone, I just thought I'd offer - you never can have enough, you know?) :)

IF I am here, I am using my psychic powers and guessing #8. See, this works either way, because either we think similarly - I don't know about the writing part - and I'm right, or we don't, and I'm wrong :)

Excellent deduction, Watson.

*whistles innocently* The rules say I'm not to confirm or deny, but you were so kind with yours that I will cheat and say in my best Xander voice, "You're not wrong."

As for the second half, maybe it's more wishful thinking than actual similarity, because I've been greatly admiring your style as I read back through your reviews.

Never enough! [livejournal.com profile] synn's going to go over it as well; she and I always look over each other's work regardless of how many others have taken a gander. You & I did make a deal to swap Brit- and unBritpicking jobs, didn't we? Mayhap I will send the next draft of this one over to you for polishing.

I also have a House/Wilson coming up (also due Aug 11), if you're interested....

You can still have part 1 because it's the only finished bit.

You're not on the list because I don't like you. Obviously.

(Nah. I only included one or two RL friends because you all know what I think of you. :) )

Oh, I very much enjoy your writing style, so that would be flattering - I'm just bad at comparisons XD

#3?

I'm guessing that #3 is catilinarian ... ?

Willing to Britpick for you, if you think I'm qualified.

No confirmations or denials! Mwa ha ha.

I've actually got a plethora of betas for this fic. If you want to point out any remaining Americanisms once it's posted, though, please do.

Aw, thanks! I hope to rival your reviews when I cover Chelsea Walls (haven't read yours yet on that one) and the audio book Disobedience over the next week or so.

From: [identity profile] daasgrrl.livejournal.com
Oh, goody! I haven't seen Chelsea Walls yet (hoping to soon) and haven't even heard of Disobedience (presuming it's RSL). I don't have the attention span for audio books, so reviews are nice.

I'll be making [livejournal.com profile] synn's and [livejournal.com profile] michelle_nine's suggested corrections today (I hope) and then you'll get it in all its second-draft glory.

So, if you're not confirming our guesses, are we still supposed to guess? Oh well, at least there are nine of them I know I'm not, though I would be flattered to fit the slot I might. But if you're not telling... ;-)

"Surfeit" is the word I was trying to think of. Five volunteers, including you, of whom I took the first three. Six additional eyes. Quite sufficient.

Thank you for the offer! I hope my original reply didn't come across too tersely.
