HP fic beta? and a meme
Jul. 23rd, 2006 08:25 pmAnyone willing to beta-read and/or Britpick a 3,500ish-word Remus/Sirius fic sometime this week? It's due August 11th so there's time enough to make substantial changes if suggested.
And now, because it's such a nice one (and fun for me, getting to infuriate everyone by not confirming suspicions), a meme lifted from
daasgrrl:
Take a look a your LJ friends list, then list up to ten things you want to say to ten different LJ friends... DO NOT state who these people are. DO NOT confirm nor deny any "comment speculation."
The original meme said to tag five people, which I'm not doing. Also, one of the items is for someone who has friended me but isn't on my flist. Just to throw you all off, heh.
1. Your comments consistently challenge me to refine my thinking, which is sometimes hard but also a nice change of pace. I hope you've been finding my responses thought-provoking as well.
2. It was great meeting you and I wish we'd had more time to talk. It's amazing how we can come from different countries and cultures and just "click" like that. I hope we stay in touch.
3. Where to begin? You've been through so much and emerged a vibrant, thoughtful, funny and delightfully irreverent person in spite of everything. You're also a fantastic ego-booster. :) I can't imagine not knowing you. Oh, and you should write more.
4. I wish you had more confidence in yourself. You are far more interesting, creative, thoughtful and quirky than most people, and you deserve to be happier.
5. I don't comment nearly enough on your LJ, but I read every post, even the ones you cut because you think people don't want to hear about it.
6. You're brilliant and funny and insightful—and hardly on LJ now, which makes me sad.
7. It is such a delight to know you (even though we have never met face-to-face) and to read your posts and comments that I hardly have words for it. You fill me with love. You're probably not going to think this is directed at you. Well, now you might.
8. I haven't known you for very long, but we think and write eerily similarly and it's fantastic.
9. I've also only recently befriended you, but I find myself frequently telling people about things you've said, and I have to use your screen name in the conversations because I don't know your real one, which sounds ridiculously silly.
10. I have enormous respect for what you're doing in fandom, even if you think it's insignificant and even if (if what you said once is true) some people find it pretentious. In fact, you've inspired me to do a similar thing, and it has had an enormous positive impact on my experience in fandom and sense of being part of a community. Thank you, and keep it up.
And I'm adding an extra one because it applies to several of you and because I want to say it.
11. I'm sorry that it always takes me so long to write back to you.
Wish I could go on. Love you all.

Date: Jul. 24th, 2006 02:16 am (UTC)May very well take you up on the offer. I'm finishing up the last rough bits now; it should be done within a couple of days. It's weird, because I've written the third part before the first two. A fresh pair of eyes (with body & brain attached) would be really helpful for telling me whether the lead-in works or if the balance shifts oddly.

Date: Jul. 24th, 2006 01:26 pm (UTC)*whistles innocently* The rules say I'm not to confirm or deny, but you were so kind with yours that I will cheat and say in my best Xander voice, "You're not wrong."
As for the second half, maybe it's more wishful thinking than actual similarity, because I've been greatly admiring your style as I read back through your reviews.

Date: Jul. 24th, 2006 09:15 pm (UTC)You're not on the list because I don't like you. Obviously.
(Nah. I only included one or two RL friends because you all know what I think of you. :) )

#3?
Date: Jul. 26th, 2006 12:05 am (UTC)Willing to Britpick for you, if you think I'm qualified.
Re: #3?
Date: Jul. 26th, 2006 12:59 am (UTC)I've actually got a plethora of betas for this fic. If you want to point out any remaining Americanisms once it's posted, though, please do.
