SGA 4.6, "Tabula Rasa"

Can I just say that I loved:
- Rodney.
- The teaser.
- Katie Brown (I love Katie Brown. More Katie Brown, I say. She and Rodney are so absolutely incredibly cutely awkward and in geek-love. She's soft-spoken and sweet and likes plants and he's sharp and mean and hates almost everything and yet they're both socially inept and attracted to each other and it's okay, somehow.)
- Katie naming a prickly cactus whose barbs draw blood after Rodney.
- Keller, strong and calm and steady-speaking.
- Katie & Rodney again. He's there at risk to his own health, trying to be supportive when it doesn't come naturally at all, and so concerned for her.
- Rodney being paranoid.
- Zelenka being paranoid.
- John being paranoid.
- Everyone being paranoid.
- No, really. I think it speaks to underlying tensions, even after all this time, that the scientists are wary of the soldiers and the soldiers disregard the civilians for their own good, and even missing their memory, they want to protect their charges, and the Earthers don't trust the Pegasus...ians?.
- THIS IS TEYLA. FIND HER. I don't know, it's funny.
- Flashbacks that worked better than they did in "Sunday," in part because of less repetition/overlap
- A medical plot
- A medical plot involving Pegasus vs. Milky Way pathogens and immunity
- Amnesia!Sam trusting Rodney
- Rodney being a natural leader in the mess hall
- Teyla Emmagen, action hero!
- Support following Lenore's SGA kinks poll that Rodney really may like having equations written all over him.
- Polaroids and writing on skin and loss of memory and broken-up narrative reminiscent of Memento (because it had to be mentioned at some point).
- Rodney freaking out on Teyla, and Teyla reassuring him that his passion for science means that knowledge will not desert him even when everything else might. ("Doesn't that make me a bad person?" "It makes you a person who's going to save hundreds of lives." "Oh. Well, when you put it that way." ♥)
- John freaking out on Ronon, and Ronon reassuring him that (a) flying is in his blood and (b) he knows, deep down, that they're friends and he can trust him.
- Lorne freaking out on John, and John reassuring him that he's his commanding officer and should be trusted/obeyed even when Lorne doesn't know what's going on.
- Follow-through on Teyla's nightmare of being targeted/suspected for being non-Terran.
- Mm, John in scrubs looking sleepy.
- Everyone patting and squeezing each other's arms and being generally physically comforting as well as verbally supportive.
- Katie & Rodney, ohmigod. Three episodes, and may there be many more. (I was prepared for them to kill her off; she was so sweet and likeable in the beginning, it seemed a sure setup. I guess they wanted to skip a week before killing another recurring character.)
Oh. Oh, oh, oh. Warm and happy.
... I hope Zelenka remembered where he hid the control crystal.
Note to self: Rodney and House both make frequent & frivolous bets with co-workers.
friendshipper's initial recap; linabean = awesome

Date: Nov. 3rd, 2007 03:22 am (UTC)And I like Katie too. She finds Rodney charming. I'm pro that.

Date: Nov. 3rd, 2007 03:26 am (UTC)Diametrically opposite view. Really didn't care for this episode at all; thought it dragged and was woefully un-suspense-filled.
Oh well.

Date: Nov. 3rd, 2007 03:32 am (UTC)I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. We'll bank this one for a future episode where you'll love it and I'll feel blah, yeah? :)

Date: Nov. 3rd, 2007 03:33 am (UTC)And yes! Bullet point for John asking for Rodney immediately after confirming that Teyla and Ronon made it.

Date: Nov. 3rd, 2007 03:40 am (UTC)- Rodney being a natural leader in the mess hall
I was thrilled to see both of these things, especially since last week's episode made Rodney out to be so wishy-washy (which he isn't).
And this episode finally laid to rest my fears that the writers would make Sam the genius who saved the day, rather than Rodney. (I don't mind if they take turns; I just didn't want it to always be Sam, like in SG1.)

Date: Nov. 4th, 2007 11:16 pm (UTC)Yes, yes. That and the variety of combinations we got to see -- Rodney and Sam, and Rodney and Sam and Zelenka, and Ronon and John, and Teyla and Rodney, and Lorne and Teyla, and Keller and Ronon, and... This season, it's been like the cast is a deck of cards and they keep getting shuffled, and I love it.
