Feels silly to do this for so few stories, but here goes:

2007 fic list

(2006 list here)

January

Untouchable - 3,200 words

This was my first: Story based on a dream; UST; post-ep fic.
A line I love: House shakes his head to the side, once, without tugging his arm free, and when he speaks, his voice is quiet, rough, with an edge to it that sounds like a plea.

Still love this one, and I think it'll be the one I choose to do "DVD" commentary for when it's my turn at the comm.

February

Be My Valentine - 1,100 words

This was my first: Sequel, of a sort (to "Welcome to Whoville").
A line I love: "You taste sweet," Wilson said, a smile tugging at the left side of his mouth.

I remember the day I wrote this, one morning/afternoon at work when we had a snowstorm and nobody was doing anything productive. I enjoyed being able to add sensory detail to their kiss using a New Yorker's many years of experience eating at diners.

April

On Knowledge (All Ye Know on Earth, and All Ye Need to Know Remix) (with commentary here) - 1,650 words

This was my first: Remix.
A line I love: In any case, it is now the Friday night in question, and, having showered and brushed his hair and found trousers that don't look like Wormtail's had a go at them and pressed the brown shirt Sirius likes because it apparently compliments Remus' eyes, Remus is pacing very small circles in his very small flat, fretting about an entirely new set of questions he doesn't know the answers to.

Why my Remus/Sirius stories have so far all been light and fun despite the inherent tragedy of the Marauders, I could not say; but this was fun to write, once it got going, and I'm happy with how it turned out. Plus, it was fun to sneak in some Keats in the title.

Coming Into Focus (The Director's Cut Remix) (with commentary here) - 3,000 words

This was my first: Pinch hit; song fic, kind of.
A line I love: As if sensing House's troubled thoughts in his sleep, Wilson murmurs and rubs his cheek across House's shoulder a few times before settling down, tightening his hold around House's torso.

I don't know how different this story would be if it'd been written in more than a week (my memories of the writing process were of listening to "Bone in my Ear" on endless repeat and panicking to a couple of betas every ten minutes), but I do like it.

May/June

The One in Which Wilson Plays a Mafia Punching Bag so House Can Comfort Him (A Birthday Tribute) (or the whole story on one page at my website) - 9,900 words

This was my first: Meta fic; crack; hurt/comfort; insertion of fellow LJ-ers (and self, briefly).
A line I love: Inevitably, Arnello had returned, muttering something about a pig and a convertible.
And also: Tentatively, House touched one of the longest scars, shiny and baby-smooth, curving below Wilson's ribs like a scythe.

Well, this was certainly a... unique experience. *g* It was a lot of fun to write, and covered a lot of ground, emotionally. One reader described it as schizophrenic, which I think is accurate and also probably a result of it having been pieced together in so many sittings over several weeks, although I do hope it all came together for people by the end—silly, sexy, stirring, strange.

August

The Misadventures of Inarticulate!House and Dom!Wilson (with apology here) - ~7,000 words

This was my first: MST.
A line I love: "Holy migrating nipples, Batman!"

I still feel bad about having done this when the mocked story is by someone on LJ who doesn't know about it (as far as I know, anyway), but at the same time, I'm proud of it; I think there are a lot of funny lines in there, and I wish it could be circulated further without hurting the original author.

The post is locked to members of that community, but I'm happy to email a copy to anyone who wants.

September

An Unanticipated Side Effect of Dosing Oneself with Wraith Enzyme to Deliver an Important Message - 513 words

This was my first: SGA fic (completed).
A line I love: He knows everyone around him is some shade of stupid but the enzyme must make it worse somehow because they don't understand that Sheppard and Teyla and Ronon are in mortal danger and for once Sheppard's charm isn't going to save them because charm doesn't work on a hive ship full of Wraith with their, their webs and their ridiculous teeth and their enzyme, mm, enzyme, is it hot in here?

This came together so easily. So easily. Just outlined the end-words and let Rodney go. He and House were both made for sestinas in their own ways.

One day I will write more SGA fic. One day.

ETA: December

Mission Reports in 17 Easy Syllables - ~130 words

This was my first: Fannish haiku? Attempt at communal fanficcy silliness?
A line I love: (I really hate bugs.)

Some Christmas Eve SGA & House haiku, which totally do not count as fic, but I'm putting them here anyway, because now it looks like I've written something since September.

The end.

Total: 7 stories/poems in three fandoms; 26,400 words. (Half the number of fics and 300 more words than last year.) Plus 16,400 words' worth of WsIP.

I really loved Untouchable. It was so good I couldn't mess with it at remix time.

It's weird to me to see so many of my House peeps moving to SGA, when I did the exact opposite. House was getting good when SGA was getting WTF, and now the reverse is true. Cycle of life, I guess.

Heh. Like a double helix, the strands crossing each other and back?

I really loved Untouchable. It was so good I couldn't mess with it at remix time.

It makes me so happy to hear that from you.

When you've done DVD commentaries in the past, have you ever taken questions ahead of time? I'm wondering if people would want to ask things that I could try to answer as I go. And, either way, is there anything you'd want to know about that fic?

I see with every passing month, you decided to add two words to the titles? Maybe next year they'll be longer than the fics themselves :-)

(Or, wait, you practically have! The Unfortunate Side Effects of Bug Bites, Also Known As John Writes A Mission Report for Elizabeth: a haiku.

Hm, no, I haven't really thought about what people might ask...and I don't know what I'd ask. I just really like people's interpretations of their stories, and what they were thinking while they wrote, and why they made certain decisions. I guess, with Untouchable--what are your thoughts on Happily Ever After House/Wilson?

Ha! Whether the title growth is progression or regression, I hesitate to say.

(Hm. Should those haiku be on this list?)

FWIW, my favorite bits in DVD commentaries are the ones when the author writes about what they loved in their fic. Because there are parts of my own stories that I love and want to gush about, and it's always nice to know I'm not alone in that :-) Other than that - small trivia of how you got ideas for certain scenes or lines, and small writing tricks. Zulu adds in a lot of those.

That's why I'd like to do "Untouchable" -- there's a story behind its creation, and there are parts I want to gush about and to explain and parts I wish could have gone differently, and things to say about the characters and the show and the story and the writing process.

That's it exactly, those are the small stories I want to hear.

Yes! Hopefully. And more House fic, and more whatever else fic crosses your fancy. :)

You do know it's not about quantity but about quality, right? There are 26,400 quality words right there.

Oh, and yes, "Untouchable" is part of my personal canon, I'll have you know. I also admit I'm partial to your pinch-hit remix, too. ;-D

Sorry I didn't comment earlier; I was too busy reading the MST and laughing my ass off.

Definitely looking forward to the DVD Commentary for Untouchable. I think of them as notes to myself about what I wrote, and how, and why. In other people's commentaries, I like the "behind the scenes" -- how the author came up with particular bits, anything they don't like, any auspicious mistakes, and especially any deliberate techniques used.

Not that either of us is biased about it. :)

"Untouchable" is part of my personal canon, I'll have you know.

Is it? Yay! It's sad to think that the UST makes it feel like it could be part of canon (she said, making assumptions), but I was very happy with the way the events of the story slotted in between those episodes.

There are 26,400 quality words right there.

I dunno -- I think I overuse "a," "and" and "the," and I'm not sure what the inherent quality of "Wilson" and "House" are....

*ahem* I'm funny when I'm sick, right?

Thank you, though, really. It's true that I'd rather write two stories I'm proud of than ten I'm kind of embarrassed to post. The dissatisfaction probably has to do with thinking about my poor time management skills -- thinking about all the time during the year when I could have been working on a story, you know?

Aw, I think it's always better to post only if you're happy with it; if that's all you have time for, so be it! I think my favourites of those were probably Untouchable and the SGA sestina, and I'm looking forward to the commentary.

(And re your other post... I had to look up "Cornhole". That's a most... unfortunate name *g*)

(I know! Ack! I'd never heard of it -- it's more a midwestern thing, I've since learned -- 'round here, it's usually just called bean bag toss, except a couple of people in the office know it as Baggo. Most of us couldn't refer to it without bursting out laughing.)

I guess mostly I wish I could write faster, or more often, instead of spending so much time staring at the screen. But I like each of the stories that went up this year, and that's pretty great. The SGA one was one of your favorites? Cool!

I think it's going to be fun to write up what was going through my head as that story took shape. (It's writing about me and about my story -- what's not to enjoy from this end? :) ) My turn should be coming up in late January or February.

Yay MST making you laugh!

What a great break from the semi-annual attempt to put my apartment back into some state of array - I remembered all over again how brilliant "Untouchable" was, and somehow I missed "Coming into Focus," so I feel like I just won the lottery. Which would be perfect, because then I could buy a bigger apartment and be able to shelve all my damn books...

*nods* I can't tell you how much time I wasted playing solitaire while "waiting for inspiration."

I'm so glad people post these lists, because I hate missing stories... time moves so fast in fandom! *head spins*

Some of these are my very favourites; this is a great chance to say hello to them again <3
