Our library has some rotating art installations out front. Right now, there are some metal sculptures I thought [livejournal.com profile] nightdog_barks and [livejournal.com profile] blackmare_9 might get a kick out of.

Sorry about the silhouetting; my camera sucks. I would have gone for the other angle, but there were cars and people. Oh well.

Unrelatedly, I've read some excellent stories this weekend:

- if death's waters came by [livejournal.com profile] lanthano (900 words). Exceedingly well-written, as all of [livejournal.com profile] lanthano's stories are, this is a strikingly prescient look at John and his family at his father's funeral—prescient because it was written last summer, and while "Outcast" jossed a few of the plot points, it's still a very believable window into John's head and home life.

- In a similar vein, the fourth installment of [livejournal.com profile] nightdog_barks's Annals series (15,000 words), a.k.a. the Ancient Rome House AU, in which Gregorius struggles with his father following the death of his mother, and James gets caught in the middle. It's suspenseful, terrifically sad, and beautiful.

- I don't know how I hadn't read Fix by [livejournal.com profile] crysothemis before. Hot, hot, hot story wherein John becomes addicted to an Ancient sex room and comes to Rodney for help. There follows several encounters and angst and miscommunication and did I mention hot? There are three versions, each with a different POV; I definitely recommend reading Rodney's first (25,000 words).

- Lustrous by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock (15,000 words). She'd been posting this unhappy girl!John/Rodney AU sort-of-divorce plus parallel-universe-Rodney cameo fic in snippets for a while, and finished it for the first day of the 14 Valentines celebration of women. While I was indifferent about the first half, by the end of the second I was tearing up. It's a wonderfully honest and painful look at what can go wrong in marriages and what might still go right if only both parties could communicate.

Also, I posted commentary to "Untouchable" at midnight last night. I wonder if it would be appropriate to cross-post to [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson?

The end. Need to do taxes, catch up on comments and do some thinking before the game and Extra Special House Episode come on later.

Thanks for the rec of Fix, it was great! (Clearly I wasn't really supposed to be writing today!)

Oh, yes--Fix is fantastic. I love both John and Rodney's versions, and I heartily agree that one should read Rodney's version first. I haven't tried version 3, with the alternating POVs, yet, but I HAVE reread versions 1 and 2. :)

So, have you done your thinking? Whatcha thinking about?? And have you watched any of the Puppy Bowl?

I left off about halfway through John's POV yesterday, when I was so tired I was getting bored. It's time to pause when you're bored in the middle of a hot sex scene. :)

I have just now finished my taxes, as it happens, and am ready to kick back and put on the game in an hour. Have not watched any Puppy Bowl -- in fact, didn't even know it existed until [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon mentioned it this morning. Should I? Is it still on? ETA: I've got it on now. Cute. But can you really watch it for three hours?

Things I need to think about include paper topics and a couple of ficathons I've signed up for (because I am crazy) due in March/April.

What're you up to?

Oh, yes, time to pause when dozing off in the middle of a hot sex scene. :)

Puppy Bowl is awesome. I agree, though...not exactly something one can watch for three hours, unless you have it on in the background while doing other stuff. Z seems to like it, and I would have it on while writing fic, maybe.

I have a ficathon fic due in March! A Ronon-centric fic, if you can believe it. Right now I"m working on hardboiling eggs and wading through a manuscript (I'm reviewing for a journal, and the stats in one section are UGLY. Argh.).

...On the other hand, I'm starting to think puppies would be more interesting than this game.

Mm, eggs.

Is it a Rononfest story? Cool! I've got one SGA and two House 'fests to manage, but I think they're doable. I hope.

Have fun with that article. Eek.

I liked Fix. It's a crack fic who got done up in nice clothes, switched her Groucho glasses for contacts, let down her hair, and suddenly you realize she's the starring love interest! Angst fics with happy endings are what I prefer, and this one was quality -- only a couple times, in John's POV, did I want to smack either of them for needlessly prolonging the pain.
