bironic: Neil Perry gazing out a window at night (wilson smile)

Greek avgolemono soup is one of the greatest foods humankind has ever invented.

Having devoured a cup of it for lunch (depressingly smaller than the bowl I’d ordered), I looked around for recipes to see if it was worth the effort to make some myself. Then laughed when this sentence appeared in the middle of one:

“You can very gently simmer the soup a little but do not boil it or scrambled eggs happens.”

One of my other friends made that fairly recently and gave the recipe she used ... here it is.

(It's an open post and she's a very cool person so I figure it's safe to link. Heh.)

Neat, thanks. The fact that the soup can't be refrigerated or reheated without the eggs curdling is going to be an issue, though, since I'm the only one in the house who'll eat it, and that's a lot of work for just one bowl at a time.

I wish scrambled eggs would happen to me!

I dunno, it could be painful!

I'm imagining what it might be like, now. A little wet "pop" in midair, and a burst of falling egg bits?

That sounds like something Sheppard's team might encounter on a very strange field exploration ... the planet of spontaneously combusting food?

I think from now on I will say, "scrambled eggs happens!" instead of the more scatological expression when things do not go according to plan ;-)

Hee, I still remember the classic "I did not know it was so complex."

*g* That guy is now managing a different department here, after that manager left. I've grown to like and respect him a little more, but that line is still a classic.

I think from now on I will say, "scrambled eggs happens!"

Ha! PG-rated and funny all at once.

That's my life philosophy already: Scrambled Eggs Happens.

I think I need a t-shirt.

You and purridot should get in on that together. :)

Oh, FINE. Make me google. (Actually, I just noticed you linked after all, but it doesn't work anyway, so *g*).

Egg and... lemon? Really? I'll take your word for it *g*. It vaguely reminds me of egg flower soup, except that there I think the eggs are 'curdled' whereas here they seem 'not-quite-cooked'.

That's me, setting up the code and forgetting to put in the URL. Sorry!

It's like a thick lemon soup with rice (and is delicious!). I didn't know there was egg in it the first few times I had it. I guess it is the thickening agent.

ETA: Oh, you know what it was? The way I posted, all the quotation marks were smart quotes, so the code didn't recognize that the link was there. Fixed now.
