Indians on Pluto

Just this post and then I'll shut up about it.



Have been looking all morning for photos of Kitten in his Indian squaw getup from "Breakfast on Pluto." In this chapter of the movie, he's on tour with glam rock band Gary Hatchet and the Mohawks and sings a duet onstage in drag (before getting pelted with vegetables from audience malcontents) -- hence critics' inability to resist comparisons with Jordan's earlier "The Crying Game." Murphy is prettier than Jaye Davidson was. But JD is prettier than Murphy when he's out of drag in "Stargate."

That added another movie to my "to see"-list *sigh* Who could resist that...
Even if I do drool a lot over Jaye Davidson in "The Crying Game" as well. Love that film... *writes note to self: Buy "The Crying Game" soon*

I should rent "The Crying Game" again. Haven't seen it since the first time years ago, before I really knew what the IRA was.

I've seen it two or three times in all, I think. First time in the theaters when it was first released. I must have been about 16 or 17 at that time.

Funny how that is, I can't remember not knowing about the IRA. Ireland is fairly close to hear after all and was a large part of the news all the time while I grew up. Just as much as the Iran/Iraq war and the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Well as I'm sure you know, we are all ignorant here in the U.S. and only learn current events if we make the effort ourselves, or major in political science or journalism. So when I got around to seeing TCG I knew vaguely that Ireland had terrorist issues -- and maybe I had heard of the IRA -- but didn't know any specifics, so the details were lost on me. Those were the times when I'd rent movies adults said were good so I could feel mature.

Well not necessarily by choice... And people like yourself are good for getting rid of that reputation.
Heh, I went through that period as well, about the time when I saw TCG. The adults in question were often teachers or such, as my parents are wholly ignorant of movies *G*

So we are sisters in teenaged pretension. :) Yes, it was teachers and also my mom, who had few but generally outstanding movie and book recommendations for me, and one friend who knew a slew of top-notch foreign films. Stuff like "Ordinary People," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," "The Big Chill," "The Turning Point" (Baryshnikov ballet movie) and "Kiss of the Spider Woman." Lots of Robin Williams and William Hurt dramas too.

Indeed :-) I think any intellectual minded teenager go down that road ;-) And I'd spent far too much time with adults as opposed to other children while growing up.
Now, there's another one. I do recall watching "One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" with my mother. She likes that movie as well. So do I, for that matter.
