SGA, "The Shrine"
Aug. 22nd, 2008 10:14 pmOH MY GOD, SGA, RIP MY HEART OUT WHY DON'T YOU.
I never thought I'd watch this fic on screen (or Flowers for Algernon on SGA). I'm not sure I'd have wanted to. But here it is, sort of, watching someone's friend spiral down like this, watching him watch himself spiral down, and ... *sniff*
And those scenes with John? Oh my God. My heart.
ETA: friendshipper --> Tipper, moonlash_cc, Pruuuuu, nine, usomitai --> cesperanza, toft_froggy

Date: Aug. 23rd, 2008 03:04 am (UTC)I normally can't handle stories like this (Phenomenon, Flowers for Algernon, etc) but David Hewlett was so amazing. I think I forgot to blink some of the time. I know I forgot to breathe.
(and you know there's going to be a flood of "missing scene" fics set after the pier)

This may be the best episode SGA has ever done.

My first-ever lengthy review about SGA (http://theninth.livejournal.com/341796.html).

Date: Aug. 23rd, 2008 03:06 am (UTC)Also, obvious attempt to humanize Woolsey is obvious.
And I also thoguht of 'Theory of Everything' when I saw this episode. OMG THEY'RE READING OUR FANFIC!! Can the McShep be far behind?

Date: Aug. 23rd, 2008 04:17 am (UTC)I just, for some reason, tend to like any female character that is attracted to Rodney, since there aren't nearly enough of them. And of course I have no expectation of McShep on the show (they'd only screw it up anyway) so I have no problem with Rodney having a relationship with Keller, as she is adorable and awesome.

Date: Aug. 23rd, 2008 03:12 am (UTC)It's too bad the Rodney/Jennifer is so forced and off-screen/told not shown. I'd buy Ronon/Jennifer way more easily, even after the brush-off they've been giving them after "Quarantine."
ITA with the Woolsey thing, but I liked that they brought up Alzheimer's.

Date: Aug. 23rd, 2008 04:23 am (UTC)You know, now that you've said this, I do agree, but it wasn't something that bothered me before. I guess I watch the show focusing only on the OT4 relationship, so when they say 'Oh, and Rodney and Keller are really close now. You hadn't noticed? Oh, well, they are.' I shrug and accept it.
Plus, I have a terribly prejudice for believing that all characters should be attracted to McKay and his awesomeness. How could they NOT be??

Oh my God. Just an amazing job of acting. Wow.

Date: Aug. 23rd, 2008 03:21 am (UTC)And am I thinking of Mary Stewart novels, or was there a riff in the Arthurian story about Merlin and a waterfall? Does that sound familiar at all?

Date: Aug. 23rd, 2008 03:24 am (UTC)And yes, I love how the melodramatic sci fi show does a lot of things better than our beloved "reality"-based drama.
