I seriously just participated in a game of Pi/Not Pi.

Hahaha. Well, I suppose you're in the right place on the right day, eh? Though...how does that game work exactly? There are fewer options than in prime/not prime.

My favorite thing in college was the combined Pi recitation/pie eating contest.

They had 20 formulae, starting from π and e and progressing to things like 4 ∫ √ (1-x2).

After the pi/not pi there was a recitation and a pie-eating contest. :) And then pie for everyone else.

Wow, that is classic. How'd you do?

I made it to #3 or 4, which was the above, which turned out to be the equation for a circle. Oh well! There was still pie.

It should be a rule that every event has pie no matter what else happens.

Awesome! I presume you had to guess with each new added digit?

(Why are all my pie icons over at insanejournal?)

Mm, more like they'd read out a formula and you had to pick a side, Pi or Not Pi, and there'd be an elimination.

Oh god that sounds like my idea of a nightmare! I've always loved hanging out with people who like that sort of thing, though! Go figure. So I shall assume that it was fun. ♥

*pulls out v. tired joke* Was the prize for winning ~pie~? :3

Ah, had I read the comments, I'd have known that all were pie-winners. :)

Pi is universal! We all benefit from the Pi!

Behold the power of cheese pi!

You can make a NS reference but I will not get it. (Is that a good or a bad thing, I wonder?)

Behold the power of cheese pie? Or pie cheese?

I was going to say that PI TOTALLY COMES FROM THE HTW and realized that I might as well be talking gibberish. (Good and bad! Bad because you won't get my reference, good because you won't be plagued by the urge to make other people listen to N.S. references. ;))

It was a book called ... something Pi. Everyone there got to have pie, so it wouldn't have been a very good prize. :)

Fortunately for the math illiterate among us, you (a) had a 50/50 shot at being right and (b) could follow the crowd.

Enjoying MIT, then? ;)

My jealousy knows no bounds (and will probably end up with a restraining order). Not that I would have been a competitive contestant, but on principle... I didn't ever remember what day it was. :( I may have to head over to my mother's house tonight to see if she's done any baking.

The thing is, I don't feel part of the community that can do pi recitations and the like, which saddens me, but I'm glad to be here where I can at least witness it.

I hope indeed that there is some PIE in your future.

LOLWHAT? Although I have to say I love it.

Random: do you read xkcd? I only found it recently, but it's just full of awesome.

Some favourites:

http://xkcd.com/74/ (binary sudoku)
http://xkcd.com/26/ (Fourier transformation)
http://xkcd.com/18/ (Snapple)

And in honour of your day: http://xkcd.com/10/

Hee! I do read xkcd, but I only discovered it last year, and I hadn't seen any of the ones you linked to. Thanks for the laugh.

I realised while catching up on my f-list that [livejournal.com profile] topaz_eyes just linked to it too. Ah, the groupthink of geeks XD
