Wow. Glad I didn't take the Metro home today.

That's my line, near my stop, and a few minutes, perhaps, before I would have reached the spot.

*HUGS* thank goodness.

Actually the report doesn't say which direction the train was going or which side of the U-shaped line it was on, so it might not have been near my stop or going the same way, but still. Yikes.

ETA: Yeah, no, that's the stop right before mine.

Clearly not as bad as for the people actually involved, but *still*

Oh, honey. So glad you're all right, and I just ... I don't get what happened here, how it happened. I've never heard of trains colliding with each other like this.

I love how the spokesperson says he doesn't know what happened. Um - you had two trains on the same track?

Sigh. I used to think this only happened in Boston, where you get crashes every so often from drivers being drunk or text-messaging or stupid college kids crossing above-ground tracks without watching what's coming towards them. (This past fall, the driver even honked at one, but he didn't hear it because he had an iPod.)

I don't have the energy or all the ingredients for baking, but I have had some ice cream and am playing with a vid, which is just as good.

I haven't got a clue. All I know is he takes the metro every day. I'm going through his blog and twitters now to see if he says what line/stops.

I hope it's nothing. Considering how many people take the Metro and that only two trains were involved, chances are he's just stuck in the massive delays the accident caused. I hope.

Just got a direct-message on Twitter from him: Accident was 5 stops up from me. I left work at 3:40 yesterday, out of Metro by 4:40. If I worked late as planned, I'd have been on Red then.

Whew. Now I can officially stop my selfish worrying.

Those trains are full to capacity with a lot of people standing. I can't imagine what happened to them all when the train came to a sudden leap-stop like that.

You'll be proud of me, by the way -- this time I'm fixing the aspect ratio as soon as I import the clips. Figured out it's the ripping software that thinks the widescreen is 4:3, but Premiere has a setting where you can "interpret" footage into a different setting.

Date: Jun. 23rd, 2009 01:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] daasgrrl.livejournal.com
Hee, that's excellent. I've seen some flashy super-duper technical vids (recced from other fandoms) where the aspect ratio was off throughout, so I'm thinking it's just one of those things that you either automatically notice or you don't! I mean, you can obviously be trained to if you care enough, but I know some people just don't even 'see' it.

I'm usually the first to complain when someone's flatscreen/plasma TV isn't set right for whatever we're watching, so I was surprised not to have noticed it on the last vid. I think I'd just been seeing those clips for so long that they looked normal. Not this time, though!

Date: Jun. 23rd, 2009 02:05 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] daasgrrl.livejournal.com
Ha, I've done that too. "Can I change the aspect ratio? I CAN'T WATCH IT LIKE THIS, SORRY." Picky, picky, picky XD

Heh. Only now -- grrrrr -- it looks right in Premiere, but when I export it, it's all wrong! Exporting with 16:9 for some reason makes it 4:3, so it looks squarish and the people stretched vertically, and exporting it 4:3 makes it widescreen-shaped but the people are stretched a little too far horizontally. WTF?

Er, not to complain about something irrelevant. I'll put it in a vid filter post at some point.

I wonder if this will end up being another cellphone/text-messaging-related incident.

I'd really love to know how the following was possible, however (from the NY Times' website):
An elderly woman standing near them flew out of her seat and was sprawled on the floor.

Yes! That was a fascinating story. I read it online a few days before the show aired, and while the organization was wacky (it wasn't until at least 3/4 of the way through that the writer said the girl hadn't developed mentally either), it was still fascinating. I feel like I've also heard of a boy in India (?) whose body hasn't grown since he was a toddler.
