Good God, am I glad this week is over.

One bright spot has been the headphones my sister got me for Hanukkah. I found, to my delight, that "Baltyccy Piraci" by Mordewind, which I've had and loved for a couple of years but must have only listened to on this tinny laptop speaker, sounds fantastic with stereo and bass boost. It's like a whole new song. Richard Thompson's "So Ben Mi Ca Bon Tempo" sounds great, too, although it's still a little embarrassing when he does the la la las.

So here they are for you.

And since I was putting together a zip file, I added eight more songs to round out the list. The only theme, I suppose, is that they sound excellent in these 'phones.

Coldplay – Cemeteries of London
Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yankoukov – Water
Janove Ottesen – Neighbour Boy (I know I've shared this before, but it's so good)
Joseph Arthur – History
Loreena McKennitt – Marco Polo
Mordewind – Baltyccy Piraci
Nickel Creek – Reasons Why
Old Blind Dogs – (name unknown)
Richard Thompson – So Ben Mi Ca Bon Tempo
Robbie Williams – The Road to Mandalay

I don't suppose anyone feels up for sharing or recommending some music in return? It's been a while since my last infusion.

Oh, thanks for the music. Mm, I really like "Neighbour Boy".

I'm always the last to hear about artists, so I'm hesitant to suggest them -- people invariably reply that they've been listening to that band for ages, but ... Joanna Newsom? I think you would appreciate her quirky vocals. I can upload some songs if you'd like. If you haven't been listening to her for ages. ;)

Oh, neat. I like it. I'm so hit and miss with knowing artists - I was more on top of things back when I lived in NY and listened to the public mostly-folk radio station there.

Did I ever link to Victoria Vox stuff here? Can't remember. But she reminds me a little of Joanna Newsom just at first blush -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87ovj9SaTz4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS5jMELBQ4E

If you linked, I missed it, but I think I like it and I'm definitely impressed.

I'll see if I can scrounge up some more Joanna Newsom. She's just such a unique artist, if a love-it-or-hate-it one.

I do love Richard Thompson's "So Ben Mi Ca Bon Tempo." I sang the song years ago w/ my college madrigal ensemble, and was so delighted to discover it in his oeuvre! I get the sense he is a real music geek, given the breadth of his 1000 Years of Popular Music cd and concert. I would love to sit down and natter with him someday.

I also just got a 5.1 surround sound system, so I've been gleefully leeching music to test out the speakers ^_^ loving the bass, especially when playing soundtracks.

I definitely rec listening to some orchestral stuff on your headphones. The Pirates of the Caribbean Unreleased Suites are great, as well as Angels & Demons opening (160 BPM). Also, definitely check out stuff by the Eminence Symphony Orchestra.

I would happily share if I thought there was any chance you'd approve of anything I owned. I have actual friends who claim that musical theatre doesn't count as 'music', per se. Hmmmph XD

Hey, I almost put Linda Eder's version of Man of La Mancha on here for you musical freaks. :)
