Second square on the way to a second Bingo...

Tonight we rec stories where one character finds another's handyperson skills appealing, or where characters have sex while/after performing some kind of domestic labor or pretending to do same. Doing construction work, wearing toolbelts, fixing a leaky faucet, remodeling, sewing, painting, delivering packages. Some AU, some not. Some sweet, some hot.

With a few parenthetical recs for straight-up domestic stories, because I couldn't help it.

SGA

Hank and the Handyman by thegrrrl2002 - A fic for the "Gay Porn for Girls" SGA AU community wherein John and Rodney are porn stars who meet on the set of a shoot featuring a plumber.

Bookshelf Porn (The Thing About Toolbelts) and sequel The Thing with Sheppard and Toolbelts by scribblinlenore – Does what it says in the titles. Rodney has a thing for John coming by his quarters with a toolbelt slung low on his hips.

NHMR Productions by apple_pi – A "Holmes on Homes" HGTV AU wherein John has a TV show, contractors Rodney and Teyla guest-star, and eventually they spin off into fame and happiness together. (John/Rodney and Teyla/Kanaan pairings)

Restoration Hardware AU by aesc – John is a construction worker; Rodney is a (hot and) bothered academic. Others in the series can be found under this tag.

Junk Cheap by devildoll – Rodney moves into a new apartment building; John is some combination of a laid-back junk shop owner, fixer of broken plumbing, and distressingly hot landlord. It starts with a leaky faucet and goes on wonderfully from there.

Mail Myself to You fic and cover art by sheafrotherdon, dogeared and aesc – Package deliveryman counts, right?

…I could have sworn there was one about John and Rodney being youngish housemates and there was something about mowing the lawn, written by one or more of the above authors and/or siriaeve. Anyone?

John Sheppard's Guide to Surviving Project Runway AU/fusion by sheafrotherdon – Which is about sewing, and friendship/bonding, and touching the people you love (metaphorically) through clothesmaking. With pitch-perfect Tim Gunn, OMG.

And, gah, there are a bunch of just domestic fics that I can't even start poring over to add here, in no small part because domestic in and of itself (see fx. [livejournal.com profile] casa_mcshep) is not necessarily a kink for me – but there is domesticity and occasional housework/carwork/planework in the epic A Farm in Iowa series and the Nantucket 'verse at [livejournal.com profile] wagoneer and in long domestic/mundane kidfic/familyfic like wesleysgirl's gorgeous On Life and Living series and Elayna's The Neighborly Detective and the Tragic Woobie Widower, and… a million others. We will move on.

House

The Manly Art of Home Repair by Rachael Sabotini – In which Wilson lets some of his inner blue collar show when they undertake some apartment repair projects, and House gets a little hot under his own collar. There's a trip to Sears, some power tools, a garbage disposal, and a joke about "comfort grip."

Service Call by topaz_eyes – A spoof fic based on a rumor about RSL being in a Maytag commercial. House wants Wilson to wear the coveralls and "fix" his "washer."

Custom-Blended Colors by the stream-of-consciousness porn duo recrudescence and nakeno – Painting a room and then having steamy sex in it.

Thank you x1,000 to [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry for helping me find these again on the big wide Internet.

Inception

Renovations by joosetta – I always remember this one by its summary: "In which Eames builds a nest and (accidentally) lures Arthur into it." Eames keeps doing semi-off-stage renovation projects on his apartment. Arthur gets increasingly intrigued. Eventually there is cohabitation and, if memory serves, furniture-mingling.

gyzym's Wherever You Will Be (That's Where I'll Call Home) domestic 'verse is the closest I've seen in Inception to wesleysgirl's "On Life and Living" (see above). It took a while for me to get into it, but once I did, it paid off with deeply affecting chapters on dealing with each other's families and so forth. For this particular recs list, the installment having let go of the fallacy of forever being alone involves an actual construction-requiring incident. There is also a running joke throughout the series about cooking and Arthur's astonishing lack of skills thereof.

And that is all for now! Any others I'll kick myself for forgetting?

There's one where House and Wilson are in Wilson's garage, doing manly car things (or manly motorcycle things?) and other things start heating up and Julie almost catches them and ... I remember it as being very very hot. But I can't remember who wrote it, or what it was called. :-(

I'll see if I can find it, or maybe someone else will know what it was.

I totally just added that one to my vehicular page!

Mm, yes, that one was scorching.

Yes indeedy. I'm glad you brought it up because I kind of wanted to include it here. :)

Well, it's funny -- you said "wearing toolbelts," and that was the first fic that leapt to mind although I don't even know if they are wearing toolbelts in the story. Mind tricks, how do they work?

There's a table or shelf or pegboard of tools they're shoving up against, I think?

There's a work table. Tools rattling on the walls. Tools get mentioned several times, so that's probably why I thought "toolbelt."

If you're putting domestic fics in, please let me give a shout-out to my sister in House/Wilson domesticity [livejournal.com profile] magie_05. House Keeping is a series of mostly NC-17 fics in which there is domesticity and almost always sex and just UNF. You could put it in "domestic as kink" and maybe even "vanilla as kink" because UNF.

Her comm for the series unfortunately is missing one of the best of the bunch so I'll give you the link separately: Seduction in Suburbia.

And as a bonus for those who would find it to be a bonus, this is child-free domesticity. Not always that easy to find (says the person who's written way over 50,000 words about H/W kids...).

Heh. I was half-saving the domestic fics I have liked in case the square comes up on another card, but many of them spilled out here anyway. Like I said, living together isn't a kink for me in itself, but I'll give a rec a try!

Thank you so much. I like your rec collections a lot, but I do hope you'll eventually write another essay. (I understand you have a life out of this, though, and I can't even imagine how long you took to write the essay I so liked. Just so you know there are people out there who occasionally go and read your essay again).

Oh, thank you so much. Yes, not all of my squares will be recs lists - they're just easier, so I'm knocking them out first. I'd like to do some meta for my "held down" square, for example, and I'm not giving up on the consent play follow-up since I have that square too.
