Title: Long Night's Journey into Day
Fandom: 28 Days Later
Rating: R
Music: "Cemeteries of London" by Coldplay
Length: 3:22
Summary: Jim, into the darkness and out again. We hope.
Contains: Graphic zombie violence (blood, severed limbs, hacking, etc.), dead bodies, implications of sexual assault, lightning/flashing lights, some quick cuts.
Dedication: Made for Heather, for Festivids 2011. Originally posted here on LJ and here on DW.

A/N: I really like how this turned out - the changes in pace to build and relax with the music and the narrative flow; the relentless onslaught of the zombie attacks; Jim's journey from fearful/fleeing to fighter to zombie-like himself as he attacked and killed to survive; the beauty of the song, which I tried to live up to with the editing. The only thing I wish I could have figured out how to do better is the opening. Still don't know if it's engaging enough to convince people to stay for the rest of the vid.

Lyrics:

At night they would go walkin'
'Til the breakin' of the day
The mornin' is for sleepin'
Through the dark streets they go searchin'
To see God in their own way
Save the nighttime for your weepin'
Your weepin'

Singin' la la la la la la la lay
And the night over London hey

So we rode down to the river
Where Victorian ghosts pray
For their curses to be broken
We'd go underneath the arches
Where the witches are, and they say
There are ghost towns in the ocean
The ocean

Singin' la la la la la la la lay
And the night over London lay

God is in the houses
And God is in my head
And all the cemeteries of London
I see God come in my garden
But I don't know what he said
For my heart it wasn't open
Not open

Singin' la la la la la la la lay
And the night over London lay
Singin' la la la la la la la lay
There's no light over London today

Your feedback on this vid made Festivids for me this year - thank you so much. It's been especially a thrill coming from someone whose vids I have enjoyed so much. Looks like you've made two of my favorites in this round as well!

I didn't get a chance to watch this until just now, but omg it's really beautiful! I love the editing and the way it matches the song.

Thank you! During the Festivids signup brainstorming process, the song jumped out as a good match for the movie, and I was glad to get this as my assignment. Once I hashed out the structure (not a pleasant process!), the vid really came together. I'm so glad you liked it.

Secret confession: It always gives me a special dose of happy when one of my favourite vids turns out to be made by a person I really like.

Eee, that is very sweet. I also love getting comments from friends during the anonymity period, because it means the people I like and respect have good things to say about my work & I know it's not just platitudes, because my name isn't on it. Same for you? So, roundabout way of saying thanks for this comment and for the one you left on the Festivids post originally. ♥

I've been going through all the past Festivids while I'm getting excited for this year's Go Live, and this is one of my favourites, if not *the* favourite, of all the ones I've seen there (despite not knowing the movie). It keeps coming back to me several times a day because it's just so haunting - hauntingly beautiful, even, and I honestly can't stop marvelling at your song choice - what a perfect, perfect match. Such a great vid.
Any chance you could reupload it? :)

Oh, wow, thank you so much. What a wonderful thing to hear on this cold, snowy morning. Someone recently asked me which is my favorite vid I've made, and I replied that this one I think is my best-edited. I love this song - hauntingly beautiful, you're exactly right - and tried to live up to it with the film clips.

I will reupload it this morning to Mediafire and update the link. Thanks for the reminder!

Wow, okay, that whole project folder is missing, which is distressing. But I found a copy of the mp4 in another directory, so at least that still exists and the download link is updated! Enjoy.
