Watched the House finale last night. Was not thrilled. Am trying to pull my thoughts together for a proper post about the final arc and the retrospective, and about looking back at how my online life has changed since I started watching the show and participating in that fandom.

Until then, some things that are of the good:

Vids. Found out this afternoon that Soccer Practice will be showing at [livejournal.com profile] con_txt in June! This will be the first time that vid shows at a con and the first time I'll be present at a con where a vid of mine is showing. Quite excited for that.

Writing. Wrote 1,400 words of fic today! That's 1,400 more than I've written in the past few months. Never mind that when I appended the new text to the file it belonged to, I discovered that it should have been in past tense instead of present.

Friends. Visited [livejournal.com profile] synn over the weekend in beautiful weather, with two new cats, lots of movies, a little work, and an Amish farm store. Mm, strawberries and sugar snap peas. Surprising, quirky delights in the form of The Host (Gwoemul) (is it horror? comedy? drama? social commentary? spoof? answer: all of the above) and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (what the hell age group was that intended for? also: one million famous people, including Ken Wantanabe with a giant head). Then got to stop by [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry's on the way home and enjoyed conversation along with playground swings and barbecue.

Radio. Good podcasts during the road trip: Radiolab episodes "Guts!" (fun times; I especially liked the story about the fistulated man) and "Help!" (what to do when you are your own worst enemy, with examples such as quitting smoking and overcoming writer's block; discussion of the Ulysses bargain, where you enlist others to help you resist future weakness/temptation as he did with the Sirens, and the …Xenophon? X-somebody-Greek scenario, when you back yourself up to a cliff and have no choice but to do what the rational part of your brain wants you to).

Summer. With luck, this summer will see me take a proper vacation for the first time since I quit my last job to go to grad school. With extra luck, that'll involve Iceland and Finland with friend A. and husband. Also looking likely that my mom will come down for a long weekend on the Eastern shore of Maryland/Virginia, where I am told there are beaches and wild ponies. And, eep, I'll be turning 30; I'd better start thinking about something special to do, if it's not one of the above.

Clean things! Impromptu emptying and wipe-down of the refrigerator yesterday; laundry's running right now.

The week ahead. Happy hour on Friday. Yann Tiersen in concert on Saturday. Dee & family. Sister in town on tour one evening next week.

Iceland and Finland! Glorious. I was in Iceland for a few days in 1998 and adored it; I'm eager to return, and Finland is high on my list too.

I haven't watched this season of House, but I look forward to your thoughts thereupon. I did love that show an awful lot for many years.

Really I am looking to visit Finland at the moment, since A is from there and it'd be wonderful to have a guide for part of the time who knows what she's doing. Iceland came up last week as a likely stopover point, and that would be a glorious bonus to the trip. We shall see what develops....

Heh, don't you love it when that happens? I've done that. ;D

Glad to know even the best are guilty of this. :) Much worse things could happen in drafting, I know.

I'm really excited for Soccer Practice at Con.Txt. That is going to be a hit. :DDD

When's your birthday? We should do something! Cookout, maybe?

I am excited that you are excited. :) Altogether it is exciting.

My birthday is at the end of July! Should totally do something. Still working on the "something" part. You know, it's still hard to top the club with all the swinging willies, ha.

Heeeee. Yes, I don't know how we could top the strip club.

I did love the end of House which clouds most of my thoughts on the episode but while I was watching I kept thinking that your idea for the finale was sooo much better.

Yay Soccer Practice! I love that vid, it cracks me up.

Hee, thanks on both counts. An ending like mine would have made a lot of people angry, judging by comments in various communities leading up to the finale, so I suppose it's just as well. But we can still go there in our heads. :)

CLEAN ALL THE THINGS!

Ahem. Anyway, I enjoyed the House finale, from a 'casual watcher' kind of standpoint - I don't have the rabid enthusiasm anymore, so I probably missed some things (I was kind of multitasking *g*) but I don't care. Plot holes - massive. But it was... fine :)

You would think in a one-room apartment it wouldn't be difficult to keep things tidy, but things keep popping up. Right now there's only the filing to do and a storage closet that I'd like to better organize and sell or give away most of the stuff that's taking up space in there, but by the time I get to those, who knows what else will need doing.

it was... fine

I'm a bit "eh" about it too. About the show in general since... oh, years ago. So it's hard to tell. Need to draft that post. Writing it will help me think it through.

I would be sadder except you are going to be on an awesome off-continent trip doing awesome off-continent things. So.

Ooh, a real vacation! That'll be awesome. I was in Iceland once for about an hour, and saw it only through the windows of the Reykjavik airport, but it looked like a great place to spend more time, even from there.

Definitely interested in your thoughts on House! You do a great analysis.

The post turned into more of a personal reflection than a proper analysis, but oh well. One day when I have time and access to a recording of the episode, maybe will revisit.

Vacation is going to be excellent, by virtue of being a vacation, wherever it turns out to take place. Oh, yes.

Writing is always good. :-) Kinda neat that you wrote the new part in present tense and the older part in past tense. I've decided tenses sort themselves out--whatever "sounds" better for the fic.

True! I flipped a metaphorical coin and turned the new stuff into past to match the old. Felt weird at first, but now it reads fine.
