I am very happy with my Festivids assignment. It's for a source I hadn't offered until I got the saddest fandom-related email in the world Saturday saying that no one had requested any of the sources I'd offered, and would I consider offering some more? While it would have worked out either way, this outcome is lovely. Also, while there are only two or so items on people's Dear Festividder lists so far that I'd love to do treats for (and I'd been hoping to do a bunch of treats this year), Things are cropping up as usual in RL over the next couple of months, so I suppose it's just as well. I do have an Apocalypto vid in progress that I hope to finish soonish, though.

Uh, and also a fic and a final fic section to complete before the end of the month for Kink Bingo. How time doth fly.

Life has been more or less uneventful. Shows I have been watching while not doing RL stuff include:
  • Game of Thrones season two. Liked it muchly. Solid. Maybe not as awesome as the first season, but still compelling the whole way through. Gorgeous production values. Some of those costumes, wow. Main complaint is only that I would have liked ten more episodes immediately after finishing!
  • Doctor Who current half-season. Maybe it was the way I watched it, but I didn't get as invested as I did in the previous Eleven & the Ponds seasons. Everything happens so quickly - everyone, especially Amy, talks so quickly, always out of breath - no time to process, on a show that's all about time. That said, I totally cried at the last episode, about five seconds after rolling my eyes at the screen for being so unsubtle with the emotion manipulation.
  • The Vampire Diaries, which started back up on Thursday, yay. Still a CW teen drama, but a vampire one, so <3. If nothing else, I was telling Dee the other day, Elena and Stefan's relationship (despite its own issues) is so much healthier than Bella and Edward's, it's not even funny.
  • Project Runway, with one episode to go before they switch over to an "All Stars" interlude. Not really invested in any of the finalists, but it's enjoyable casual TV.
  • Shaun the Sheep, when I need a shot of cheer.
  • White Collar, when I don't feel like doing anything else. Am up to 1x6.
  • Frasier, which I discovered a couple of weeks ago runs every weeknight from 10-11:30. Granted, I can only watch from 10-11 because that's bedtime, but it's an hour of joy and nostalgia.
  • Deep Space Nine DVDs. My happy place.
Plus, movies:
  • Cowboys and Aliens: Meh. The idea was fun, the execution was boring and stretched out. Olivia Wilde does not look like a person who existed in the Wild West. Maybe that was part of the point. Regardless, it gets a thousand bonus points for not being a remake.
  • The Island of Dr. Moreau (Marlon Brando version): WTF? No, really - WTF? I get the allegory of what happens during a revolution and the dangers of brazen genetic research without moral considerations, but - WTF? The Val Kilmer/David Thewlis homoerotic tension was at least enjoyable for a little while. I do still want to see the 1920- or '30-whatever version, pre-Code, supposed to be haunting on a level with Freaks.
  • The Crime of Padre Amaro: Also meh, even with Gael Garcia Bernal. I fast-forwarded through most of it.
  • Love's Kitchen, a romantic comedy with Claire Forlani and Dougray Scott. Totally charming, despite bland reviews; at least, for the first two-thirds of the movie, when it had likeable characters with understated relationships and an unconventional structure wherein man and woman get together without many complications and the man doesn't have to overcome whatever obstacles to prove he can hack it in his profession because he already proved a decade ago that he's a good chef. Heh; I guess some would call that a lack of dramatic tension. Anyway, recommended for all the stuff until it falls prey to cliché and side-character caricature.
Want to see:
  • Cloud Atlas
  • Prometheus (still)
  • Looper and that JGL bike messenger movie that we all somehow missed

You should see the Bike Messenger Movie (Premium Rush). It's light and adorable and fun.

Looper was chewy and intriguing, though the sex scene wasn't gratuitous enoughj

Well, if you're truely desperate I am considering renting out my Festivid treat bunnies because I won't have any time to do them. ;)

Elena and Stefan's relationship (...) is so much healthier than Bella and Edward's, it's not even funny.
I'm not really familiar with the Twilight Saga beyond unavoidable cross-pollunation, but gee, that must be a f...ed up pair, because Elena & Stefan with a side of snarky Damon is FAR from healthy.

Matt Bomers beauty crosses all boundries of gender, sexual orientation and taste.

:) I'm partial to Tim DeKay as well. There is always someone pretty to look at.

True! And yet. Maybe I should clarify by calling it more feminist and open, for the most part. The season premiere was especially heavy on the "Thank you for respecting my choices" comments. Bella/Edward is... special.

Heh. If only ideas were the problem, right? I think I have five active vid ideas clawing for attention besides Festivids.
