bironic: Neil Perry gazing out a window at night (RSL neil window)
[personal profile] bironic
1. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] grammarwoman for making Strange Times for me! It was the Strange Days vid I'd been hoping for for years.

2. If you haven't already, do check out [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry's entry, Part of Me (Now You See Me), which I had the pleasure of beta-watching. I haven't seen the movie so can't comment on the whodunnit plot, but as another commenter said, this does a lovely job of conveying the joy and wonder of the characters' performance of magic.

3. I made three Interview with the Vampire vids for [livejournal.com profile] sol_se for [livejournal.com profile] festivids 2013-2014. This entailed more angst than even a vid involving Louis and Depeche Mode would have indicated, because I love [livejournal.com profile] sol_se's work and wanted to make her something worthy and wasn't confident I had come anywhere close. But: She indicated happiness, and each vid received a couple of lovely comments that made me feel it was worth making. Weeks later, we (in the royal sense) have made peace with our creations.

Title: Precious
Music: Depeche Mode (edited)
Length: 2:57
Summary: "She should never have been one of us."
Content notes: Brief female nudity; graphic/lethal violence against vampires of all ages
Physical notes: None
Thanks: To [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry, [livejournal.com profile] synn and [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom for trying to help me fix this when I was convinced it was broken, broken, broken, and to [livejournal.com profile] cincodemaygirl for the extra reassurance.

Among the things [livejournal.com profile] sol_se said she likes were Depeche Mode and Louis, and lo, this Depeche Mode song was on my shortlist of things to vid IWTV to. On the one hand, I think it suits Claudia's story well from Louis' POV. On the other hand, melodramatically angsty protagonist + melodramatically angsty song = recipe for unintentional hilarity. Keeping the vid sincere instead of sentimental or funny was hard, but I wanted sincerity for [livejournal.com profile] sol_se's sake and for [livejournal.com profile] trelkez's and mine and anyone else who really, deeply, unironically loved this world back in the day and still ruefully loves it now. It took a lot of work and hand-holding for this to make it to Festivids.

EDITED LYRICS

Precious and fragile things
Need special handling
My God, what have we done to you?

We always tried to share
The tenderest of care
Now look what we have put you through

Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give

Angels with silver wings
Shouldn't know suffering
I wish I could take the pain for you

If God has a master plan
That only He understands
I hope it's your eyes He's seeing through

Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give

Title: Snake Song
Music: by Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan (edited)
Length: 1:57
Summary: Santiago the trickster.
Content notes: Sexually charged male-on-male threat (:36-:42), brief gore (1:37-1:41).
Physical notes: None.
Thanks: To [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry, [livejournal.com profile] synn, [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom and [livejournal.com profile] cincodemaygirl for looking this over and letting me know the endings didn't work.

This was my fallback plan vid. I decided to make it after all because [livejournal.com profile] sol_se said in her Dear Festividder letter that while she has favorite characters and pairings, she enjoys when a vid makes her interested in others, and because I wasn't sure if "Precious" was going to work out. Making this vid made me appreciate Santiago more, so I thought maybe the same could be true for her. (Stephen Rea is a great actor, but Santiago never did much for me. This song would have been excellent for Armand -- at least, book Armand -- but the footage wouldn't have worked out as well, I think.)

EDITED LYRICS

Well you can't hold me
I'm too slippery
I do not sleep in
I get lonely
You can touch me
If you want to
I got poison
I just might bite you

[instrumental]

Lie in circles
On the sunlight
Shine like diamonds
On a dark night
Ain't no mercy
In my smiling
Only fangs and
Sweet beguiling

Well you can slip in
Try to find me
Hold your breath and
Flat deny me
Makes no difference
To my thinking
I'll be here when
You start sinking

Full version of the song can be heard here.

One of these things is not like the others.

Title: Trouble
Pairing Louis/Lestat
Music: "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift (edited)
Length: 1:56
Content notes: Sorta nonconsensual seductive vamp-making.
Physical notes: I don't think any.

Predictably, the silly one got the most comments. I enjoyed making it a lot in the week after the assignment deadline; it came easy. [livejournal.com profile] sol_se said she used to love Louis/Lestat, so I wanted to give it a try. I think my fake comment to the original post, made to throw off the scent as if anyone were sniffing around suspecting I might have made this, sums up my thoughts about this pairing: "Oh, Lestat. You make Louis chew on dead wet rats and brood in the rain about how he wishes he could quit you." Since I wasn't able to find any songs with Brokeback Mountain lines, I went with Taylor Swift. :) (I like most of her singles! So sue me. Nonetheless, sudden dubstep is funny, so I tried to make the corresponding clips funny too.)

EDITED LYRICS

Once upon a time
A few mistakes ago
I was in your sights
You got me alone
You found me
You bound me
You bound me-e-e-e-e

I guess you didn't care
And I guess I liked that
And when I fell hard
You took a step back
Without me
Without me
Without me-e-e-e-e-e

And he's long gone
When he's next to me
And I realize
The blame is on me

'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
Now I'm lying on the cold, hard ground

Oh, oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble
Oh, oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble

No apologies
He'll never see you cry
Pretend he doesn't know
That he's the reason why
You're drowning
You're drowning
You're drowni-i-i-i-ing

Oh
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
Now I'm lying on the cold, hard ground

Oh, oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble
Oh, oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
Trouble, trouble, trouble
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
Trouble, trouble, trouble

Comments and concrit are always welcome as I try to improve my vidding.

I love ALL of these, especially "Precious" for its Louis angst and Claudia's innocence and rage. And "Trouble" is just A DELIGHT, for the ridiculous song choice of course but your snappy and fitting editing really sold it. :D
