In honor of a string of birthdays among you all, a meme from all over the place:

Go to Wikipedia, enter in your birthdate (sans year), post three events, two births and one death.

July 26

1953 - Fidel Castro leads an unsuccessful attack on the Moncada Barracks, thus beginning the Cuban Revolution.
Births:
1791 - Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart, Austrian composer (d. 1844)

Sorry, I need more than three, because my birthday is just way too cool:

May 1:

1834: The British colonies abolish slavery.

1886: The first day of the general strike that led to the establishment of the eight-hour workday.

1894: Coxey's Army (official title: The Commonwealth of Christ), the first protest march in the United States, led by unemployed workers, arrives in Washington D.C.

Births:

1830: Mother Jones

1831: Emily Stowe, Canadian physician and suffragist

1946: Joanna Lumley

Deaths:

408: Arcadius, Roman emperor.

Yes, it was hard to select just the three/two/one. Your birthday is indeed very cool! Thanks for sharing.

Well, I'm not entirely surprised that on May Day (Margaret's birthday), strikes, revolutions, and declarations of freedom abound.

For me:

April 5

1242 - During a battle on the ice of Chudskoye Lake, Russian forces rebuff an invasion attempt by the Teutonic Knights.

1930 - In an act of civil disobedience, Mohandas Gandhi breaks British law after marching to the sea and making salt.

1976 - In the People's Republic of China, the April Fifth Movement leads to the Tiananmen incident.

And two bonuses, one for a friend of mine whose family is from Kerala: 1957 - In India, Communists won the first elections in united Kerala and E. M. S. Namboodiripad sworn in as the first chief minister.

And one for my thesis: 1992 - Siege of Sarajevo begins when Serb paramilitaries murder peace protestor Suada Dilberovic on the Skenderija Bridge.

Births: Blaise de Vigenère, French diplomat and cryptographer (1523) and Thomas Hobbes (1588). Okay, I lied about it being just two - Bette Davis, Gregory Peck, Nigel Hawthorne, and Colin Powell, plus the third Sikh Guru, also blow out their birthday candles on the same day I do. Well, Colin Powell does. The others have all gone to that Great Birthday Cake in the Sky *sniff*.

Death: Georges Danton, executed in 1794 at the age of 35.

I also learned that 5 April is Arbor Day in South Korea and First Contact Day in the "Star Trek" universe. I love this meme!

Hey, First Contact Day!

("We have one of those?"
"Bad Trekkie. Bad.")

Cool dates & births & death. I had a hard time narrowing down mine but did manage to stick to three/two. Now I'm thinking maybe I should have indulged myself! So here are two more birthdays: George Bernard Shaw and Aldous Huxley.

Oh and p.s. "Great Birthday Cake in the Sky"? Hilarious.
