Hi! So, I finally migrated to Dreamwidth. Let's see if this cross-posting thing works. I expect to be messing around with friend/subscription/access settings in the next little while to make sure filtered posts are accessible to DWs & openIDs while trying to minimize duplication of reading lists.

And since most people aren't even based at Dreamwidth anymore, I've gone and started a fannish Twitter account (@bironicwastaken) in addition to the recent Tumblr account.

So far I'm liking Twitter much more than Tumblr. Chatting with long-lost LJ friends! Although Tumblr remains enjoyable for looking at Paul Bettany's face and old behind-the-scenes Star Trek stuff, plus keeping tabs on what's on fandom's collective mind.

The lack of LJ/DW cross-reference links on older posts and the possibility of new comments on past posts accruing in two different places is making my head hurt when I think about keeping things neat and easily archive-able. But I will survive, I'm sure.

Here is a picture of my other weekend achievement: window boxes with some pretty leafy plants for the back deck.

Very pretty! I should get some marigolds or snapdragons or something to put in our flower pots up front since it's too warm for the pansies now ...

I'm so happy you're here! *clings* Welcome!

A tidbit of Dth tech knowledge that might be useful: I don't know if you have imported your LJ into DW, but if you did, be assured that if you do it *again* later if won't (of course) duplicate entries - either those imported already from Lj nor those posted to LJ through Dth crossposting since - BUT it WILL import new comments made on LJ on all those older posts since the last import. So if you want to keep things tidy and archived all on Dth, the LJ importer basically allows you to do that by importing regularly to update everything.

No they will not! You will simply end up with a Dw post that has all of the DW comments AND all of the comments that were on LJ at time of re-import. :D

Ooh, what a great yard and plants! Our garden is still weeds, but I am hoping to change that at *some* point...

There is another option: disable comments on LJ and follow the instructions here to both direct comments to the Dreamwidth side and display how many comment you have received so far on the LJ side of the cross-posted post.

Hi there! :-)

I have simply accustomed myself to the idea that every post potentially has two sets of comment threads. I think of my lj and my dw as adjacent rooms in the same house. (And I keep both open in adjacent tabs.) It's a bit of a conceptual switch but now I don't even think about it; it has become normal.

Also, if you are going to be cross posting regularly, then I will probably stop reading you on lj and continue reading you here, because here is where I have all of my shiny icons with which to leave comments on posts.

Welcome to DW! And go you with those window boxes. I am envious -- I need to do something like that.

You know what's awesome about having a DW and an LJ?

You can create a new post on LJ and upload pictures, then copy-paste the post -- before you even actually post it -- images and all, over into a new post on DW.

It will crosspost with your photos. They'll then show up on both sites with no Photobucket or other 3rd-party hosting foolishness. It's still a pain but it's not as much of a pain, for me.
