Title: To the Grave
Fandom: The Body Snatcher (1945)
Music: "Secret" by The Pierces (edited)
Length: 3:12
Summary: "It's like Burke and Hare all over again!" Or, Boris Karloff's amazing leers and a cameo by Bela Lugosi.
Content notes: Graverobbing and murder for fun and profit. On-screen strangling and implied (below frame) surgery/dissection. A bread loaf gets stabbed and a cat is stroked evilly.
Physical notes: Lightning flashes ~2:54.
A/N: Made for [personal profile] jetpack_monkey, who won me in the 2016 Vividcon Auction. What a delight of a project. Thank you to [personal profile] heresluck and [personal profile] corbae for helping us search for songs; this gem was [personal profile] corbae's find.

LYRICS

Got a secret
Can you keep it
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Takin' this one to the grave

If I show you then I know you
Won't tell what I said
'Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead

Why do you smile
Like you've been told a secret
Now you're telling lies
'Cause you have sworn to keep it
But no one keeps a secret
No one keeps a secret

Why when we do our darkest deeds
Do we tell
They burn in our brains
Become a living hell
'Cause everybody tells
Everybody tells

Got a secret
Can you keep it
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Takin' this one to the grave

If I show you then I know you
Won't tell what I said
'Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead

[instrumental]

Look into my eyes
Now you're getting sleepy
Are you hypnotized
By secrets that you're keeping
I know what you're keeping
I know what you're keeping

Got a secret
Can you keep it
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Takin' this one to the grave

If I show you then I know you
Won't tell what I said
'Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead

You swore you'd never tell
You swore you'd never tell
You swore you'd never tell
You swore you'd never tell

Got a secret
Can you keep it
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Takin' this one to the grave

If I show you then I know you
Won't tell what I said
'Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead

Got a secret
Can you keep it
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Takin' this one to the grave

If I show you then I know you
Won't tell what I said
'Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead

Yes two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead
Yes two can keep a secret
If one of us is dead

OH MY GAWD. This is fabulous. The song is perfect, and all the little lyric matches, especially with Boris Karloff's aforementioned leers, made me cackle from start to finish. The tempo change as the carriage went careening out through the storm was particularly cool.

I've never seen this film, but I did not need to; your vid was completely intuitive and I thought it was fabulous.

Ahhhh! I love this! I found this vid randomly on YouTube fortuitously when I was already planning on watching the movie for the first time (and was excited to see that it was one of your vids, because you are a vidder who does consistently good work).

I decided to save the vid until I'd watched the movie, and I'm glad I did because I enjoyed the movie, and the vid is a great coda to having watched it.

Great song choice and editing. You really captured the feel of the movie. Thanks so much for this!

I'm rewatching the Val Lewton horror films right now, so I had cause to rewatch this and I still love it so much. AND IT'S MIIIIIINE.
