bironic: Neil Perry gazing out a window at night (ballet hallberg wiles)

[livejournal.com profile] synn and I first went to the ballet last year because ABT did a production of "Le Corsaire" based on Byron's poem and I couldn't pass that up. The second time we went, we discovered the glory that is David Hallberg when he danced von Rothbart in "Swan Lake." As you may remember, dear DH is now a principal dancer in the company and has been getting lots of good press -- including this review from the New York Times on his role as Conrad (the lead in "Le Corsaire") last week:
Mr. Hallberg was a Byronic hero, his high, split leaps at the start reinforcing the impression of this young star as the most Apollonian of danseurs nobles. His easy, unforced technical feats were a special pleasure, as were his brashly commanding gestures.
Hee. Can't wait; only a few more days till my subscription kicks in!

He's absolutely stunning. And if he's got that much presence and command in a STILL photograph - I can only imagine ...

And that's not the most impressive photograph out there. I wish, wish, wish you could have seen him in "Swan Lake" or "The Green Table." And this season promises to have its DH shining moments as well. In fact... if you're here before July 15 we might be able to swing some tickets.

For instance (and just one instance, but a timely one at that), this is what I'm going to see on Friday: DH as the prince (http://abt.org/images/db_images/layout/home/cinhallberg1ms.jpg) in a relatively new (2004), art-deco, feminist production of "Cinderella."
