One more day to stake claims at Slashfest
Jun. 4th, 2006 12:59 pmIt's entirely
synn's fault.
I'd been eyeing
slashfest for a week or so, and then she had to go and claim one and tell everyone else to claim one, and then I did. Except it's not one, it's three: one challenge each for Sirius/Remus, House/Wilson and Spike/William. I think the first two will be short and the third more involved. Never mind that I haven't yet finished the Wilson/Grace fic for
1sentence and that there's no way I'm turning down participation in
hw_exchange.... *facepalm*
Moral of the story? You should all write something for
slashfest and/or
1sentence and/or
hw_exchange so we can revel in our overachievement together.

Date: Jun. 4th, 2006 08:45 pm (UTC)Now that you've done one and a bit of another, do you have any tips on how to piece it together? I keep trying to tell the story of the whole relationship, but the form doesn't make that easy, nor is it designed for chronological order. Do you find it easier to just write whatever comes to mind when you read the prompt and let whatever story/ies seem to arise from it just arise, even if some parts seem left out or others seem to contradict one another? Or is it a matter of working at it until everything jives? Am curious as I'm getting stuck on the Wilson/Grace one.

Date: Jun. 4th, 2006 09:12 pm (UTC)I think somewhere in the FAQ or something, it says you needn't post the prompts in order, as long as there is a sentence for each one. If that's so, you could rearrange them into chronological order when you're done, or divide them into more than one story. But I definitely recommend just writing whatever comes to mind when you read the prompt first and then possibly reformatting and/or re-thinking later.

Date: Jun. 4th, 2006 09:29 pm (UTC)I've been considering rearranging the prompts, since Wilson and Grace's 'relationship' is so defined by the stage of her illness, but figured I'll see what it looks like when it's done. You're probably right about the "write first, think later" approach -- all this pondering is a bad habit that gets in the way of the story-telling!

Date: Jun. 9th, 2006 02:21 am (UTC)That's a cool prompt (obviously I think so, ha), as was another one of yours that I've since forgotten the details of. *sheepishly* I checked out your LJ quickly too when I claimed your request and noticed that in a post you were complaining that no one was taking your challenges -- my suspicion is that it's because they're so involved! I'm looking forward to seeing where this prompt takes me (us). I can see a prompt like this turning into a real epic, but I only have till August after all.
And a H/W shipper, too?
Yep! I recognized your name from

But I like plot myself. It's a thing. And hey, I believe in you. I'll break out the pompoms and everything.
Hee, I never recognize names, but I remember your icon!! I'm like, HEY!! I know that icon. And wow, that's awesome, thanks for the rec. Had too much fun with that haiku.
Anyway. Thanks.

Date: Jun. 9th, 2006 02:39 am (UTC)Heh. Of the requests I claimed, yours is the "meaty" one (oh God, the puns) and the other two are probably going to turn out to be sheer PWP.
Icon recognition is like recognizing faces of people you know you know but can't place, yeah? Your name, though, (and your icon too, sure) I recognized, for whatever reason. *shrug*

Date: Sep. 11th, 2006 02:21 am (UTC)Just FYI, I'm having a great time writing the Spike/William fic, but it's very slow-going. In the hopes that it'll prevent me from getting kicked out of future slashfest rounds, tonight I'm going to post what I've completed so far. You're welcome to check it out, of course, but if you want to wait till the whole thing's complete -- and I'm working as fast as I can -- I totally understand. Personally I think stories are more enjoyable to read when they're finished, and there's always the chance I'll need to go back and tweak a bit in part one as I get through the rest (where all the *really* good stuff is :) ). Either way. Just givin' you the backstory.
