In a combination of procrastination and summer quiet and the fact that I am not wandering around the internets as much as I used to, I'm going to be playing around with my f-list over the next little while -- I'm looking to augment my reading list a bit, but I don't know which blogs will stick and which won't. So if I appear and disappear and reappear on your "friend of" list, don't be alarmed; I'm just seeking that elusive F-list Zen. (It's got a lot to do with frequency of posting and how many fandoms we have in common and that sort of thing, not with how much I like the person writing, but the word "friends" makes things personal and hence complicated. I wonder if LiveJournal knew the term would induce guilt in people wishing to remove blogs from their reading list, and thus ensure its own perpetuation by making sure people's lists only grow larger, encompassing ever more LiveJournal blogs...)
While I'm at it: Hey, migrants -- I'm looking at you,
kabal42 and
elanor_isolda -- if you have moved to Insanejournal or Greatestjournal or elsewhere(journal), do you have an LJ feed set up?

Date: Aug. 28th, 2007 02:30 am (UTC)Thanks! Though who knows -- maybe come September and the new TV season, posting rates will skyrocket and I'll be frantically paring down just to keep up.

Date: Aug. 28th, 2007 07:05 pm (UTC)My (simplistic) filtering method is to have ONE filter I call "Pages to Read" so that I don't get every single community I've enthusiastically joined appear on my f-page. Then, I bookmark the link showing the results of the customized filter, instead of clicking on the "Friends Page" item on the menu at the top, when I want to see what's up...

Date: Aug. 28th, 2007 02:50 pm (UTC)But, yeah. No hard feelings if you drop mine, OK? I'm not really doing anything at the mo, aside from reacting to others' posts. Can't seem to gather and organize my thoughts, much less write anything. Heh.

Date: Aug. 28th, 2007 07:00 pm (UTC)Good to know, I guess, but no worries -- I'm not really looking to remove anyone; it's just that some of the new blogs I'm trying out may not work out and I'll end up taking them off.
"De-friending" has caused a hella amount of unnecessary grief, IMHO.
I realize that LiveJournal began as a social networking site with diary capabilities and in that sense, friending might really have been friending, but now a lot of people are using LJ for blog aggregation in addition to establishing friendships, and so, yes, the term's no longer accurate for us all. Sigh. Things may be simpler and easier when you don't know the person on the other end of the "defriend" button (or s/he doesn't know you), but our experience on LJ wouldn't be the same without all the personal relationships, and just... agh.
