Another year older (almost)

These are the last days of my Golden Year, and in fact it has been golden. I quit a job that was slowly destroying me, took a big trip to new places, spent a year at MIT with some wonderful people, met and solidified friendships with a few LJers, and am embarking on a different career path. That last is frightening, but it's invigorating too.

I don't think tomorrow itself will be of much note, other than my dad and his girlfriend are driving down for dinner, but it's been a wonderful week leading up to it, and speaking broadly, I'm in a good place in life right now. Never mind that after next month I have no idea where I'll be living or working (or whether I'll be working), or that I'm now at an age I barely visualized when I was a teenager (back when I thought fifteen was the peak of existence), and have no idea if I'm living up to my own expectations about the speed of life's progress. Was I supposed to have a steady boyfriend by now, and a career, and a home? I have none of those; but whether it's justified or tenuous, I'm more deeply satisfied than I've been in a long time.

The rest of today is free. I'd like to write something, but I don't know what. Maybe will poke around with a vid, which uses a different part of the storytelling brain. Was I supposed to have a steady boyfriend by now, and a career, and a home? I have none of those; but whether it's justified or tenuous, I'm more deeply satisfied than I've been in a long time.

Good for you! Satisfaction with one's life is hard to come by, so it should be treasured.

I wish I could say the same. I'm desperately trying to whip a few chapters of a sports law textbook into shape for a Monday deadline, plus finishing up proofreading a batch of proofs about global warming (a really depressing subject to read about).

I hope it went all right and that you'll have some time to relax this weekend. I ended up puttering around doing not much after a couple of appointments this morning, and then finally getting a library card and borrowing some movies (Babel and Persepolis -- real uplifting stuff). Oh, and we had a thunderstorm.

This post brought a smile to my face. I'm so glad you're in a better place, and that your hard work has paid off. Whatever your next steps are, I'm certain that they'll be more along the lines of meaningful satisfaction, since you're on a path that addresses and respects you as who you are. (...If that makes sense!) Congratulations on taking those difficult first steps!

(It also gives me hope, seeing a friend work their way out of a situation they were deeply unhappy with, since I'm doing much the same myself. ♥)

Thank you. It is difficult, being less certain of job prospects or quality of life, and everyone is always getting older. But this feels better than years ago, so something must be right.
