RSL picspam: Suit debate!
Apr. 15th, 2006 03:15 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
There has been some tux-squeeage in the fandom this week following "All In"; therefore I am now procrastinating on four important tasks by hard-coding a table full of RSL photos for you so we can discuss what we find sexy in men's formal wear, if by "men" we mean "Wilson" and by "formal wear" we mean "suits as seen in two episodes." *wistful sigh* It's like the old days of putting off schoolwork and thinking about Buffy or, more recently, HP fanfic.
I realize I've been doing quite a few posts on House of late. There are many reasons behind it which I will spare you. Suffice it to say that it's been years since I was this into a show or book or what-have-you, and I am just so thrilled to love something again that I'm going to let myself revel in it. To those of you who don't watch (or watch by proxy), and I know that's about half of you, all I can say is I hope you like the House-related posts anyway and I promise there will still be plenty of other stuff to talk about.
So -- one for everybody, with pictures!

house_md for the caps, or at least the "All In" ones, since I can't remember anymore where the "Safe" ones came from.
I'm torn between #1 and #4, leaning towards #1 because (a) so pretty and (b) House does the Rumpled End-of-night Look better (see above).
You?

Despite how it may look, Wilson is not about to attend a funeral. | View in better light, also called "Yep, he's definitely the guy from Dead Poets Society." |
Option Two: Tux, Neat. | Option Three: Tux Minus Jacket Plus Suspenders. |

At the start of the evening. | Halfway there. |
Option Four: Tux Undone. | Option Five: Forget Wilson, I'll take House any day. |

The bag over his shoulder helps too. | Gratuitous photo to fill the extra space. P.S. Why does Chase always look 15 years old in screencaps? |

Date: Apr. 15th, 2006 09:01 pm (UTC)Do you remember which episode that was with the scrubs? I remember seeing him in surgical garb too -- though I'm thinking it was up in the observation room during a surgery, maybe in a different scene? -- and noticing how lovely it was. There is something wonderful about seeing a character wear anything out of the ordinary for them, even if the outfit itself isn't sexy traditionally or out of context.
P.S. I didn't mean to imply that these two are my favorite all-time Wilson getups, just that a lot of people seem to have gone crazy over the tuxes, and I thought that even the ordinary sweater-vest he wore last week was more attractive. Hooray for having such a pretty cast!

Date: Apr. 16th, 2006 03:31 pm (UTC)I really couldn't tell you which ep it was, with the scrubs. It was one where Wilson got pulled in by House for a consult, but I don't remember if it was Detox--
*pause as she pages down to your next comment*
YES. THAT'S IT. Okay, I can tell you it's Detox, you win! It wasn't just the bared forearms, but the THROAT omg!!! That line of his throat, down to his chest, the *informality* of the surgical scrubs, compared to his normal buttoned-up with tie formality. Wow. (and yes, I loved rolled-up sleeves, with how they put emphasis on forearms. mmmm.)
Thank you for giving me a moment, there. *g*

Date: Apr. 22nd, 2006 05:51 pm (UTC)Anyway, yes, informality, throat, mm. (Did you also like the scene where he's getting ready in House's apartment and hasn't finished buttoning his shirt or tying his tie?) I don't know if I'm more taken with the many-layered suits wrapping him up and insulating him from the world or with the loose scrubs that scream 'One thin bit of fabric, nothing under here but chest!'

Date: Apr. 16th, 2006 08:15 pm (UTC)I'm there with you on the sweater-vest/jacket / waistcoat comparison. It's a combination of the article of clothing itself, i.e. the figure it cuts, and the fact that it's one of many layers (shirt, vest, jacket) insulating him from the world. That's what makes the scrubs (see above) so startling -- it's just the one loose garment.

Date: Jun. 15th, 2006 05:07 pm (UTC)Chase always looks way, way too young in pictures. He's with the in-crowd of actors who've discovered the fountain of youth.

Date: Jun. 15th, 2006 06:17 pm (UTC)Side note: Heh, you're going *way* back. I'm making my way through yours as well -- have just finished the prologue to your plague story -- great so far. I don't know 24 but I love The Stand so I'm looking forward to more.

Date: Jun. 15th, 2006 06:29 pm (UTC)Suspenders...that was what movie again? The vague romance thing with the officer...oh yeah, so descriptive, I know. Thomas plays some kind of military official in just about all his movies XD. I want him as a main character on a TV show sometime. I hear he was on 24, though I didn't see it.
*laugh* I skim here and there when I feel like skimping on work. You've got so much House stuff stored up XD I don't know if I'll be able to read it all.
Ah! A The Stand fan! At first, the story was going to be a total crack take on that novel except with all the main characters replaced by House people making cracks about plague and dead people and that crazy man who thinks he's the Devil incarnate...but

Date: Jun. 16th, 2006 12:43 pm (UTC)Oh, as if that weren't the whole point of this post.
Maybe his shirt would have been undone more if he hadn't been walking through the hospital. Like, in his office or House's office, or after, in the apartment.... *trails off, in a sudden happy place*
Suspenders...that was what movie again?
How sad is it that I think I know which one you mean -- Head in the Clouds, with Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend and Penelope Cruz?
He was on 24 -- 2nd season maybe -- I've never watched it, but TK Online had some photos. Unf. the site seems to be on hiatus at the moment.
Yep, I tore through The Stand many a year ago while recovering from wisdom teeth extraction. It's my very most favorite King book.
I hope if you do a more serious fic you won't sacrifice the morbid humor! It's such a romp so far.

Date: Jun. 16th, 2006 01:54 pm (UTC)OMGTEHSHOTAMOLESTATION *burns*Eeheehee, I kind of want an episode where House goes over to Wilson's place/apartment/hotel or something. And starts commenting on all the strange little things Wilson keeps around XD.
Yes, that's the one! Haha, you're an awful obsessive XD. Who was he playing in that season? Another German office? ^^
Oh, I just love apocalyptic plague scenarios in general, that's why I picked it up. But I only saw a little bit of the movie. My first was The Eyes of the Dragon though, and the one that scared me the most was The Langoliers.

Date: Jun. 17th, 2006 03:21 am (UTC)I wish House would go to Wilson's, just once, but the producers seem reluctant to introduce new sets, except in the finale. I mean, the hospital has one wing, one staircase and an entrance, and we never even see a CT scanner.
Heh, yeah, when I like something I dive right in. Went through a Thomas phase in January/February so it's still pretty fresh. In the TWOP recap I read of the few 24 eps he was in, he was the second-from-the-top bad guy who spent most of his time on a yacht on his cell phone before getting offed somehow. So, not a German officer that time, but don't worry, he'll be playing a POW in his next movie. :)

More people need to say things like that. Have you read any/much Romantic lit? The later Romantics were kind of obsessed with plagues and apocalypses. Byron has a fun poem called "Darkness" that's about the end of the world, and Mary Shelley wrote a great honking long book called The Last Man (not an original title even in her time) that's all about everyone dying until just a few people are left, and then just the one. I think I was the only one in my seminar who read the whole thing, let alone liked it. Even my thesis advisor was impressed. :D If you ever run across it, you might want to give it a go.

Date: Jun. 18th, 2006 08:48 pm (UTC)Hehehe, Thomas is always so sexy as a villain *grin* Especially when he plays up the German accent. A POW in his next movie? Which is that?
Haha, I'll give those a look. Didn't know Shelley wrote anything of the type. Currently, I'm reading Camus's The Plague and getting lots of wonderful ideas about human nature from it, heh. Mostly, I'm interested in seeing the breakdown of society as an epidemic spreads and what procedures people normally rely on no longer work for them. A bit sadistic? Well...you could say that >D.

Date: Jun. 19th, 2006 12:50 pm (UTC)It's called In Transit, with John Malkovich and Daniel Bruhl and Vera Farmiga, due out in early 2007 -- try http://context.themoscowtimes.com/stories/2006/03/31/102.html to start if you're curious.
Just a cheap hotel room would do for our House/Wilson love <3
Haha, right on!
