That last post was meant to be a rhetorical question, but thanks for sharing! Heh. Here is some actual content to chew on:

Henry Jenkins, fandom culture and new media scholar extraordinaire, will be holding a two-day conference at MIT in mid-November called Futures of Entertainment, featuring some impressive speakers and a fascinating bunch of panels. Here's Jenkins' blog entry for those who haven't already seen it. The conference is free to anyone, though they recommend pre-registration. Am thinking about going (even though it'd mean two trips to Boston and one to New Hampshire within five weeks). Opinions?

Relatedly, I don't suppose anyone is planning on going to the NEPCA conference in Nashua at the end of this month?

Oh my God.

You're my new favorite person.

I'm doing a term project on the function of fan fiction in terms of social constructions of community. Jenkins is, obviously, one of my primary research sources, along with Camille Bacon-Smith.

If the powers that be will allow it, I shall SO GO to this conference.

How much do you RAAWWKK! for making me aware of this! Heeee...

How much do YOU rock for doing a paper on fan fiction and community? Fanfic studies is my #1 semi-academic independent scholar hobby. We must discuss. Meanwhile please keep me posted as to whether you're going because that'd just be awesome.

Hey,

I emailed you Wednesday (I think it was Wednesday) but maybe it slipped through the cracks. Main question was, did you pre-register for the conference? Because it's closed out now.

Yeah, I'll probably go; it really looks fascinating, and it should be easier to learn the basics of the stuff I've never been exposed to at the lectures rather than from books -- if books even exist on these cutting-edge topics. Will just need to check whether my standby host will be in town for the free lodging.
