Ah, crap. Just found out Sci Fi is doing an all-day SGA marathon season-three catch-up, and I am AT WORK with NO ONE HOME anywhere who could tape it for me. Dammit.

:(

At least "McKay and Mrs. Miller" is the one on during my lunch break so I can try to watch that over everyone's chatter in the kitchen.

My original question for today: season four second half of season three of SGA starts Friday. I've seen seasons one and two and can't get hold of the other episodes in time. Do I (a) jump in to season four the second half of season three and get spoiled for season three the first half, or (b) record new eps each week until I've caught up?

Well, I personally don't mind being spoiled. I started in on House midway through the second season, and ended up watching second and first-season eps in a big jumble (I was watching two or three a week for a while. What a way to kickstart an addiction!).

So I'd say, watch it. But that's just me. :)

You know, that's a good point. Now that I think about it, there've been hardly any series that I've been fannish about that I watched straight through from day one. BtVS, for example, I started towards the end of season four, House I jumped in in mid-season one, SGA I read tons of fanfic before watching any episodes... But once I'm in, once I'm a fan, I do like to see everything in order and not know a thing about what's coming next. Hrmm. I will probably take your advice and suck it up and catch up on what I've missed when the opportunity presents itself (a second time--*facepalm*), because it'd be nice to watch these new eps at the same time as everyone else and start to feel like part of the fandom.

It's actually only the second half of season 3, not season 4. After the first ep of the second half, things get pretty episodic, so you may not have to worry about having not seen the first half. But it depends how spoiler-phobic you are.

Oh, is it? Thanks for the correction. I was confused; people were talking about season four starting soon. That must be the lag everyone's always referring to. Well, good! Half the number of eps to catch up on.

I am usually a spoiler-phobe -- the more I like a series, the more rabid I get -- but I'd been spoiled for a lot of season three and still managed to enjoy it, and I've probably been partially spoiled for S3 already by fanfic, and I'm also pretty antsy to watch more SGA, and since I don't have any S3 episodes, I can only get my fix right now by watching the new ones. Woe.

Well, I'd recommend watching it, if only so you can see "The Tao of Rodney"--that is such a fantastic Rodney-centric episode. Also, I imagine one of the NYC fangirls can hook you up with a burned DVD of the first half at some point.

Oh, definitely -- I'll want to see everything. I meant I'll only need to catch up on the first half of season three rather than all of it. And yep, I'm especially looking forward to "The Tao of Rodney" and "McKay and Mrs. Miller" (which with luck I'll see at lunch today). Thanks also for mentioning that things get pretty episodic, so there won't be (m)any arc spoilers. I'd heard rumblings about season four casting spoilers (though I didn't read what they were specifically), and that's what had me worried more than anything about missing S3 before jumping in to S4—but now that's irrelevant.

Also, I imagine one of the NYC fangirls can hook you up with a burned DVD of the first half at some point.

I wouldn't presume, but it'd be awesome. If only I had known about today's marathon yesterday! Or even earlier this morning before I'd left the house!

I think it'd depend on the fan, but you like continuity, right? So I'd hold off on season 4 (while recording the episodes so that you will have how to watch them later).

As for watching s3... there's always bittorrent. (Information on the program here and a good search engine for files.)

Or, for that matter, asking someone to make you a copy of the season. I'd offer to mail one to you, but I only have s1 and s2.

Thanks muchly for bittorrent links—I've been meaning for far too long to learn about it. I do loves my preciousssss continuity, but I've also just been told that it's not actually season four starting tomorrow but rather the second half of season three, because there's a lag between here and... wherever the show comes from (I don't know all that much about SGA cast/crew/production/etc., but then I've only been watching it for a few weeks.), and that the first half of the season was fairly episodic rather than arc-ed, so it'd be easier to start watching tomorrow than I thought.

Maybe I will tape it (well, I'll tape it either way) and find out how I can get the eps I've missed (I thought I had a way last weekend, but it seems to have fallen through) and how long it'd be till I can see them. Because if it's only going to be a couple of weeks, I'll wait, and if it looks like it'll be longer, I'll suck it up and skip 'em for now.

Or maybe tomorrow night I won't be able to stand it and I'll just tune in. :)

P.S. Procurement method secured that I thought had gone bust. Will still be looking into bittorrent, though, because, well. It'll be useful one day, and that day I won't want to waste time learning how to use it. :) Thanks again!

Yes, do learn how to use bittorrent sooner rather than later. Because then when you need it posthaste, it'll be available to you! It's really not all that hard.

Hooray on succesful procurement. :) (I need to get around to watching the cds my friend sent me... I'm just scared that I won't like SGA at all. *sweatdrop*)

Oh, I'm sure bittorrent isn't hard. It's just new. To me.

Can't say whether you'd like SGA, but I can tell that I didn't think I'd like it, but it's rather charming. And addictive -- the kind of media-drug you want to consume in a steady dose. Very easy to watch ... easy on the brain.

"McKay and Mrs. Miller" is actually the first SGA I saw. It was enough to hook me. It's brilliant. I love Alterna-Rodney and Regular-Rodney.

I'm going to have to see it again on a TV that isn't green and in a room that's not full of people talking quietly (though to their credit, they mostly tried to be considerate) for better appreciation of the two Rodneys' differences and how everyone else got along with the nicer one, but it seemed like fun. Mirror-universe twins, as I was just saying to [livejournal.com profile] adirondack_girl, are always fun.

Maybe both? Continue recording eps, but also watch the new ones. The only thing is, this Atlantis on Friday is the second half of a 2-parter that was already kinda confusing. If you can get your hands on the first part, that'd be better. *is excited for Friday* Oooh, Mckay and Mrs. Miller. One of my fav. eps of the season. Hewlett's (David, though his sister's awesome too) a god. =)

Ooh, that is good to know. With all the info people have shared today, I think I'll be taping at least tomorrow night's and probably next week's while I catch up on the first half of the season, and then hopefully will be able to watch along with everyone else.

"McKay and Mrs. Miller" was cute! His sister was disappointingly normal, but I liked her nonetheless. Mirror-universe twins are always fun. And I liked the sweet ending, particularly if John & co. were lying about finding "Rod" creepy and boring.

I loved "McKay and Mrs. Miller" (except for the cracks at Rodney's expense about blowing up solar systems). I think the team was lying at the end in order to cheer up Rodney. Wish someone would do that for Wilson!

Good idea.

I love that ep! I liked the fact that Jeannie wasn't some crazy alien-chaser or something, that she was normal. Mirror-universe twins are fun. Yeah, I liked the team's reaction to "Rod" and how they had to placate Rodney. :)
